of course if we embrace nuclear power stations we could be producing enough clean power to run the whole of the UK on electric cars, trains etc and still sell the excess back to other, less forward thinking, countries, but that would take a government with balls big enough to ignore the ridiculous "won't somebody think of the children" green lobby, and that won't happen any time soon...

i've no doubt we'll see mass introduction of hydrogen fuel cells in the future
i'm saying that hydrogen isn't a fuel like petrol, it doesn't just magically appear for free using a bit of leccy and some water, it costs energy to produce, and we'll have to find the energy to produce the hydrogen to power the fuel cells from somewhere my bet is it'll be nuclear power, once we start getting rolling power blackouts and petrol hits £10/litre we'll realise we should have started building more of them twenty years ago (from then, not now)

Yes, just have to find them - they look great, but typical fanatasy stuff eg no numberplates/indicators/mirrors otherwise looks great Quote:

A typical coal power station gives only around 35% efficiency unless it runs as combined heat and power (CHP) when it can get up to more like 75%, but I don't think there are many large scale CHP set-ups in the UK.
Quoting torques like that is meaningless, it all depends on the gearing involved.

Imagine all you want, but that is not how an electric motor delivers power.

But what do you propose we do with the nucleur waste from nucleur fission? Pack it in a concrete covered box? Dump it in some 3rd world country for a price, down big holes in the ocean? Thats the sole problem with nucleur fission, the waste, and their extremely long half lives.. |
