make sure the oil in the baking dish is red hot before you put the batter mixture in, otherwise it won't rise. So heat oil, throw in sausages and straight away batter mixture

but thats not proper cooking... i made a steak and kidney pudding on tuesday - it took over 4 hours to cook and i made the suet pastry myself and it would have been so much easier just to buy one from tesco for £2.99 lol but i like doing it properly

To really finish off this dish then make some oinion gravy. Slice up some onions and shallow fry them in plenty of oil. Add a dash of brown sugar & cook them real slow, they'll carameise to a rich brown gavy which will go with toad in da hole perfectly.

If find it hard to fry on the hob, put the onions into the oven after staring them off on the hob

No way! Cooking from scratch is great and gives one a sense of achievement in the end.

I'm sure Delia would kick me in the nuts for that tho
