There are quite a lot of commonly asked questions so I can kind of understand asking for a FAQ zone or a knowledge base.

I would agree however that it can be difficult sometimes to filter the good advise from the rubbish, which is why there are certain people who I will never take advise from unless backed up by someone who I know to have experience.

The likes of Sid Squid, Rictus, Northwind and Jambo I would ALWAYS listen to as to be honest there isnt much these guys donīt know about the SV. (but if they dont know, they would be the first to say that they dont and not pretend that they did!)

As you know MBK i have my own personal issues with the police from time to tome so i disagree with your comment.

I witnessed 4 cops at the scene of an aggravated burglary tell the residents of the property that there was nothing they could do cos the people who had smashed the door down had been sent to do so by the landlord and since it was the landlords property they were allowed to do so. The fact the property had been let by a firm of agents and rent had been paid for over 3yrs on it seemed of little relevance to them. they all seemed to think it was a totally acceptable set of circumstances for 3 goons to smash into a property at 3am. They filed to see it as what it was, an aggravated burglary attempt that had backfired on the goons

So ignorance and stupidity in numbers still dont mean they were right does it? I had to insist the main cop get on his radio and ask for clarification of the legal stand from his control room and then and only then did they grudgingly have to agree that this was unacceptable and they should be arrested for criminal damage at the very least. CID contacted me not long after and asked me to make a formal complaint about the cops as the 3 goons had also earlier that night stolen the car they had shown up to the property in.

Just cos a lot of uniforms say it, it dont make it right.

Look at Sgt Smellie, he of G20 protest fame. A few of you in uniform stood up for his actions yet the law has decided he needs to be charged as his behaviour was unacceptable.

Not wanting to get into that whole thing here again...just making the point to counter yours above.

Yeah, but none of us work together, all have varying levels of experience/training, work in completely different area, and RTA is pretty black and white, which is mainly what we speak about.

And, I didn't stand up for him. I still say we don't know full details and therefore I chose not to comment.

There is nothing wrong with answering by google, if you copy and paste it or a link to it, and SAY IT'S A GOOGLE, not try to pass off something you've just read as your own knowledge, then start arguing about it.

I've asked questions before and the best answer has been a google'd link, and it's been useful. Just happens that the poster found it because his interpretation of what I needed meant he phrased his search differently to me, or because they already had some idea where to look.

The tuning & tweaking section is a tricky one to look after. I'm not a mod, so have no power beyond attempting to emphasise the good advice and point out the bad.

I like the idea of an FAQ, but it's no small ask to put it together. It should also be pointed out that a huge number of posts ignore the existing sickies, which reduces, somewhat, the faith that an FAQ would be read before posting.

would a search compendium work eg,
not holding charge search battery, reg-rec
starting issues search cluch switch, starter motor
that way people with little knowledge could search themselves for answers while getting fewer redults to pile through?

I have been at Hope Hospital with seriously injured drivers when the Doctor Googles the symptoms for a course of action!

And you , my friend , and don`t take this the wrong way , have just highlighted a problem with it all .

Spelling , some people will do a search on "Clutch" and you might do a search on "Cluch" . The search function is only as good as the info it looks for and if that is put in a different manner to the way an article is written , then it`s a no go .

That's Salford Royal for you! And they should have the online medical thing which is somewhat more trustworthy than google...

Nothing wrong with using google if you read from multiple sources and include a reference when necessary.

why do it, im sure the origanal poster if they have managed to get onto the org sign up and post, understand the use of google themselves.
Bullocks, to research and use google proper takes a degree of skill, a lot of people will just type the question they have in, and press search.
