Many reasons for it being 50mph . One reason was that it was deemed unsafe back in the 80`s to have a 70mph limit there as the slip roads were very short and quite a few cars back in those days could not achieve the 70mph required in such a short distance .

Another reason was to keep traffic noise down as it is still quite a residential area for a town , my home backs right onto the bit where it turns to 70mph and I have suffered from excessive traffic noise from those breaking the speed limit excessively . The wind noise coming from haulage is unbelievable and tyre noise is quite loud from larger vehicles .

Another reason for the 50 limit is that the section of the road from Colwyn Bay to Mochdre was built over the top of the Old Railway and it was deemed necessary to slow the traffic down over this section to save on maintenance in case of any subsidance . It was hard to get funding for this road and Brussels coughed up the dough to help build this section , the govt don`t want to cough up Millions in case that section went a bit wrong .

What defeats all of this is that the Police patrol this area in the early morning and late at night . Cars , Bikes and Haulage all come paggering through there when the Police are not around to get to the Ferry at Holyhead in the early hours and it is very disturbing to sleep , and if the Police do give chase they have sirens on ..... this is what you get for not being able to afford a house anywhere else . I for one am quite glad he was given a pull for his behaviour .

This is a bit of a derail, seeing as how the fella in question was booked as doing 98mph which is almost 30mph over the highest limits we have in the UK. So whatever the reasons for the 50 limit, he was doing almost double that.

Exactly, no defense

It comes down to professional pride in the end. He knew he was wrong, question was does he keep quiet and take his punishment in the interests of preserving the publics view of the police, or does he make a song and dance about it in the hope of getting off on a technicality and sod what the public think. I think it's fairly obvious which he picked, unfortunately his decision is all to common these days. I just hope his force throw the book at him regardless of the courts decision.
