Not really Chris. It is just for some of us, camping is the last resort. There is no way I would get my wife under canvas she likes her king size beds and even bigger baths served up with warm towels and smelly lotions/potions. She has had it rough over the past few years and I want to include her in my weekend away yet let her feel special. Plus of course I like the idea of cuddling up next to her in a nice hotel.

For me cost is not the important part of the weekend, it is how you make use of what ever leisure time you get. We have use of a cottage in Askrigg whenever we want it. If the AR did base itself at Dalesbridge I could use the cottage and ride down to see you lot. This is what I did for the first N/S when all that was arranged was a meet at Devils and the world was spread round Skipton/Hellifield etc. Social was damm difficult. Nobody wants to drink and hit the road.

Unfortunately this years AR has set a standard that will be hard to beat.

I can understand Tims concerns for his Mrs, knowing what she has gone through.
Its no different to Pegasus needing some home comforts being of the wonky knee persuasion(or lack of) getting in and out of a tent(especially when damp) will have him on sticks for a week afterwards, or him just not being able to get out of the tent once in it, thus being in a massive amount of pain, and not enjoying himself. Just like Tim, I would rather him have somewhere nice, warm and comfortable for him to sleep.

But alas, again, folk have been spoiled by having all accomodation under one roof at this years, and expect it to be so for all others to come. I've found one that has it all, but not enough. It will be hard for any area to find a site with everything for all.

#This is not aimed at Tim, just a general point#

I leave it in the hands of everyone to decide, I've done the leg work, I've made an effort, if another area can find something far better, then we shall all have a happy time there instead next year, I have no issue with that whatsoever. In the meantime, if anyone who wants to step up to the plate and go find somewhere round here that offers it all, go ahead, make the effort.

#And no, I'm not throwing toys out of the pram, I'm actually collecting them, I've got four weeks to go til this baby is out, its slightly more important than getting out in my chelsea wagon for you all, spending my time, and my money on the petrol, looking for a place to have fun next year #
All I wanted was to just get us back on the map as a great place to have a rideout, if we are lucky enough to get it back here, then I hope people will muck in and make it another year to remember.

I'm only joshing

+1 about setting standards, though TBH, not to knock the facilities this year, but I thought the camping was very expensive considering the standard of toilets and showers there.

i would not think it inappropriate that the people wanting luxury may have to compromise and take a taxi a (very) few miles after the boozing if that would mean a pleasant ablutions block for the campers.*

Just where I would set my compromises, if I was of a mind to stay in hotels, I would not think this unreasonable.

(For a change, this is not meant to offend anyone or cause any controversy!)

*It seems this venue does provide pleasant facilities for camping, and several posh options within a short distance. Close enough to pleasing everyone as far as I can see.

#THUD#

My god, YC has posted something pleaasant, that uses appropriate use of the English language, and there's not a c*** in it anywhere

And yes, the alternative B&B accomodation off site starts as little as a quarter of a mile away...I doubt a taxi would be needed, its possibly walkable. Those slightly further one would be needed.
