its not 'money is no object' for me, yes there are three that I have. BUT, when you try selling them on at the moment, people offer you peanuts, and to be perfectly honest, I'd rather have them off road, and be able to get them back on if the other goes bang, than give them away for not many peanuts. So for that reason Dave the bike stays...for now.

I have a hobby, its called a collection of motorcycles. They are insured for very little, and I can choose when, and which one I want to tax at any particular time, and which one I want to ride. Apart from shares in autosol to keep them shiny, its not an expensive hobby. Its not exactly as if I get to do anything else, like drink myself stupid, or smoke myself to death. Its been a ten year journey of enjoyment.
Ok one was supposed to go, to fund the purchase of another this year, but at the same time, its actually serving a purpose during the winter, saving my other halfs pride and joy from rotting under a tonne of Halifax's grit!

Same here.

Only thing I'm tempted by to replace it is a slabside or slingshot 750 GSXR with well sorted suspension. However I'm not sure just how much tinkering I'd have to do to get to the same level of "just works but can bring a smile too" that the SV does...

Does not mean I would not have other bikes to do specific jobs though.

If you are comparing, it's only fair to compare apples to apples.

There are also lovely well cared for SV's about with all the modifications you'd want done to one already taken care of.

How about a GSX-R1100 like this?

Quite. I have a VFR750F which does my everyday. Worse handling[1] to keep me slow and cheap running costs (apart from fuel[2]) but a superb engine and nothing better for all round use.

Druid

[1] Although newer VFR's are probably better.
[2] <30mpg avg on a fun day.

I saw that featured in streetfighters I think... some indian themed write up or something??, looks good
I'm kicking myself for not buying jamessunhills GSXR750 slingy when I had chance before he went to Oz, it would have been perfect start.

I've got a 750 slabby in a very sorry state when I get chance to do something with it!

I think the next work bike needs to be something boring that will do 60mpg on the motorway. Wish I had time to put a small diesel engine in a bike frame!

Ive got a ZX9R that will do 60 mpg on the motorway if you keep it in top and are gentle with the right hand.Thats cruising at above the speed limit.
Then when you get off the main roads it goes like stink and provides all the power I want.Best of both worlds.

Dunno about that, I know him. It's a bloody quick bike and *very* modified. He can ride it too.

The VFR750 can do 60mpg at motorway speeds (>200m tank range). Not the way I ride it though

Had mine from new since 06 , was not planning to be a keeper but have proved a great commuter and also fun .

Also v cheap to run / insure , can't see me selling it as has 50+ k miles so not worth anything and more use to me as have to leave bike in dodgy areas some times for work so would not want to leave an expensive bike

Cheers Steveg

Now I have the comfort kit and new seat, I love the bike and can ride it for miles.

Does anyone else love the SV enough to keep it long term?
10 years in december and a daily ride. Still love it, even though it makes my knees hurt!
