At the risk of derailing the OP's thread...

Yes the VTEC VFRs have two characters, quite torquey and relaxed low down and revvy once in the VTEC zone. But the engine is definitely NOT flat. The low down torquey nature can feel a little flat if you have been spending time in the VTEC zone, but there is actually plenty of shove. The power delivery is very linear so this also makes it feel 'flat' because there is no obvious power rush like on a SS600 (for instance). The VFR Fi800 and VFR750F are also paragons of smooth, linear power.

The specific output for an 800cc engine is quite low at approx 115 horses, less than many 600s and the VFR is a heavy bike. So it is not going to win any drag races. Where the VFR really works is on real world roads, where there is plenty of torque to fire you out of corners and enough power (and revs) to get you up to silly speeds very rapidly. As an all day bike that can do everything, it is a great bike. You can ride all day keeping the revs down and surfing the torque in a relaxed manner, or start tapping the gear lever to get a wriggle on and enjoy that V4 growl and the howl from the airbox as the second set of valves kick in.

The Achilles heel is the lack of ground clearance though, so if scratching the back roads is your thing, you will be scrapping pegs, exhaust and fairing in fairly short order.

Thanks for that, on the list for a test ride now along with a crossrunner if I like the look when I see it in the flesh, for what it's worth the VFR ticked all the boxes other than the v-tec thing which there is a lot of negativity about. I will give it a go for myself and make my own call on it now

I'll shut up now, sorry for the derail, and I look forward to Tuono feedback

Usually put about by folks who rode an early or badly set up model. Post 03 models were better but post 06 are the best. I currently have an 06 and an 05 model in the garage. When I sell the 05 I will also be looking at a Tuono or similar for the twisties around here, so hence the interest in this thread.

All my speed triple engine problems appear to have been down to the dealers lying about what they said they'd done to it... when it returned from the one im using now, it hasn't used hardly any oil at all in the 5000 or so miles since.

Sorry but the front of that thing is just feckin fowl.
It's like they couldn't decide if they wanted it naked or faired so just left some bits on. Truely disgusting. Saying that, the tank backwards is true beauty.

I like it myself, it stops for front part looking all alone and gives some shape around the air intakes

Like the look of this in the pics, but you just know it will be midget sized in real life.

Tuono 2003 Racing is still on my dream garage list. Big, black, bad-azz and bling.
