Test Day Friday 18th - Brands Hatch Indy circuit - had three sessions so far, all wet, garage full of minitwins, lots of different opinions on what should be what and how that should be doing - LOL - getting to grips with the circuit, paddock hill bend is brilliant, feel all your inerds go into your boots. looking forward to it drying up, but whilst it is wet it keeps me sain, and smooth great day so far
Race Day One - 19th - Had a great day today, and achieved my two goal for today, Goal 1 - dont come last = Achieved Goal 2 - Get another signature = Achieved. Yesterday was wet so cant really compare lap timings, but in the race i was going 2 seconds faster than Qualifying, to me that was good, ended up with my best lap of the day being 1,04.2, not bad for the first time at this track hoping to do better tomoz Race Day Two - 20th - 3 Goals today - (1) Better time than yesterday = Achieved 1.03.02 (2) dont come last = Achieved (3) Loose the Novice Vest = Achieved. Brilliant weekend garage full of Minitwins, learnt loads, especially about gearing, fuel levels and loading supsension by driving harder out of corners. Great Racers with NGRRC always pepared to help. roll on Cadwell. |

Okkkkkkkkkkk sorry for the delayed update
![]() Well, my first race weekend was a mixed one. Got to Mallory Thursday night for practice on the Friday, and the chap whose bike I was borrowing dropped it of on the Thursday (thank you very much for the lend J ) Was out early for Friday practice, first session was ok, started to get use to the bike and it felt ok. Second session thought right time to start pushing a bit was going well til it started pi$$in out water L came in and thought bugger. Quick look and figured the head gasket must have gone. Not too dramatic, won’t take long to whip it off and replace it. Bit of a bummer but not the end of the world. So open heart surgery commenced. Got the gasket out and it didn’t look to F**ked and upon further investigation found that the head was actually cracked… BUGGER!! Must have frozen and cracked during the cold weather… it happens just was a bit gutted that it happened on my first race meeting. It was even more heart wrenching as my bike was there next to me being ridden by someone else (previously agreed hire) So there is me all down in the dumps thinking I will just have to watch people out there riding and not get to go an play, when Colin the mechanic says leave it with me I’ll see what I can do. After scouting round the paddock to see if anyone had a spare head (they didn’t) he decided to Chemical Metal the crack back together!! Fair play, I didn’t think it would hold but it totally did! Admittedly you could feel the bike wasn’t at its best and it was a right madam to get into gear but it worked and I got to go race J Got a couple of signatures and have a lot to learn but well chuffed that I actually got to race as I seriously didn’t think I would! And I might have had a minor trip into the kitty litter, but it wasn’t that bad. Came down the straight flat out in 6th, popped up and smacked it down a gear to throw into Gerrards and thought “Hmmm that doesn’t feel right” – I hit a false neutral – by the time I had thought that I totally had missed the point I had to throw it in so after a minor battle in my head about whether I should just throw it in anyway I decided to stand it up and go straight on. Forks sank in the gravel and I went **** over tit and face planted into the gravel VERY VERY funny for the marshals!! But considering it’s a fricking quick place to crash, bike only had a couple scratches and I just had a ****ed visor and a grazed nose. Score! All in all awesome weekend, with some drama. Would have liked better results but that’s where I need to nail in some practice J Last edited by Rai86; 22-03-11 at 10:39 AM. |

What a great class the Minitwins is, everyone so friendly and helpful. After wrecking my bike in the wet on Friday I had offers of help from everyone in my garage and people I had never met before. Pete Lacy stayed up helping until midnight to make sure I was on the grid for the races. The races went OK and I was just getting onto the back of the midfield runners by the end of Sunday. I was sort of satisfied with that as I haven’t been near a race track for the last 25 years; it was the first time on the bike and at Brands Hatch. I absolutely loved the rush down Paddock Hill and the left through Surtees. Hope to make Cadwell and maybe go a little better.

Just had my second race meeting on the SV (Sunday) and starting to get to grips with the new bike :0).
The first meeting on the 20th of March went ok, conditions not good though starting wet but drying v cold!, I started with a lap time of 1.26 at the Jurby airfield circuit and got down to steady 1.24's as the day progressed, was very cold and I wasnt happy to push too hard, I race in two classes the singles twins and triples and the 650/400 race, positions for the singles twins triples 23/32 & 20/29 and 650/400 14/22 & 13/17. The second meeting on Sunday started out much warmer, I put a first qualifying lap time of 1.23 for the singles twins and triples race putting me 24th on the grid, and a time of 1.22 in the 650/400 (times coming down again :0)) putting me 20th on a full grid. We get a pair of races for each class we enter so thats 4 races overall, the sun kept beating down and I manged to imrove my times again down to 1.21 second lap time, my results as follows, Singles Twins and Triples I finished 24/29 (had a clutch problem off the line and nearly stalled Her) and 21/30 in the second race, in the 650/400 race I went better still with a 17/25 and 14/22. All in all Im loving the SV and well happy with the change in class, I used to race a k2 GSXR-600 briefly but didnt get on with the bike, and was not competetive against the newer R6's etc. Im now learning so much more about race craft etc and managing to get involved in some good dices out there! Next meeting on the 14th of May, cant wait! Happy Easter. BigMitch #48 |
