If you think they've managed to obscufate and hide back handers through legitimate sounding accounting then consider the legions of creative accountants BAE had to hide their bribery, yet still they ended up settling out of court for a little over a quarter of a billion pounds.

Rather than conversational I'll take that as informative due to my tounge been firmly in my cheek. It was an attempt to remain lighthearted about a genuine concern that I may loose my job, filling in the blanks with what the sceptics would only have assumed regardless.
Having seen the proposals myself before there issue to our Libiyan representative I can assure you the money was spent on some very gloosy paper and 3D modeling of our proposals (the rest bought the MD a nice new 911) <-- see what I did there, its that same tounge in cheek crap which caused the initial confusion, I honestly cant help it - I am just that much of a sarcastic git.

Should proberbly point out I wasnt disagreeing with you either.

You only need to know one detail to know there will not have been a backhander of any form and that detail is -->60k<-- the clue is in the figure 60k wouldnt buy you a happy meal in relation to a £250million contract.

Why should we get them out, they went into a high risk country to cash in and make mega bucks, this has been coming for a while and many got out early, only the greedy ones stayed on. From personal experience, if you choose to work in a high risk area for the high rewards then you only have yourself to blame if it goes wrong.
There are still commercial flights flying, or drive your car over border, dont rely on goverment to get you out of situation you got yourself into. IMHO

Most of the western workers in Libya are employees of major British or multinational corporations (like BP)or their sub contractors. Many do make good money, but put up with really carp conditions while they are out there.Just like the vast majority of the rest of us they dont especially "choose" to work there, rather they go where their employer sends them,or go and get work where it is available. How many of us can really dictate where and for who we work?A tiny minority if truth be told. And how many of us could really just decide not to turn up for work this week because we think it might be a bit dangerous? Not many if we want to have further employment prospects in future. The real world gives ordinary people very limited choices, and foreigners in Libya are no exception.
