You'd think so but Im rapidly finding that most the routes (local to me) now have TRO's or have been completly reclassified.

Nice, missed this thread. I'm up for a trip over to Norfolk for some laning, is there much there? Alternatively there is loads of green lanes at this end of the A14 (anywhere between Leicester and Northampton), I reckon it would take 3-4 days to do them all.

Matt, you are in too much of an urban area with Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and Huddersfield all squashed together as they are. You are quite well placed for some brilliant off roading, but you need to ride up into the Dales, down into the Peaks, or over towards Scu nthorpe.

Skip, don't do what I've done twice and forget to switch back your reserve tap when you fill up, or put the bike away on reserve and forget next time you go out! It is a right bummer if you run out of fuel, go to turn the tap and find it is already on reserve! Start walking!!

STILL want to give one of these a go, because I've not heard a bad word on them. My off road skills are lacking but Id love to hit the back roads on one.

When you say they are cheaper than the bus, I bet you're not factoring service/tyres in with that?! Its the tyres which makes bikes expensive commuters outside of London purely because a 10k a year commute would cost at least £350 in tyres alone.

Rob, tyres are a lot cheaper for these, £100 a set in a lot of cases.

Don't worry about lack of off road skills, I rode a fair bit of green lanes in the last year of ownership, I'm rubbish, it's not about who is the quickest etc, it's more trying to negotiate the terrain and staying on

It's a chalk road that runs from Marlborough to Barbury Castle. When it's wet it looks like washing up liquid

How about this on Dunlop 208's

There is a fair bit - we have "Peddars Way" that runs from Thetford to the North Norfolk coast - some of it is out of bounds to vehicles but there is a great website provided by the council to show you where you can legally go. Do all counties have this type of thing?

Routes in black are ok for bikes and cars...
