That sleeping bag was attached to a Rentec rack using a webbing strap and inside a dry bag. The strap went through the loops on the drybag for added security and was secured very tightly.

When I looked at the strap, it had snapped about 8" from the buckle and allowed the whole lot to unravel. The lesson for me was one failure and the whole lot came off. If I had used multiple straps or bungees etc then this would not have happened.

I seem to recall a certain Dicky Ticker who may possibly argue against that, they just get wedged under following cars instead!

Sorry wrong----got wedged under a car going in the opposite direction
BUT

The luggage leaving the bike was caused by getting taken off by a car coming across a HALT sign the previous day and not realising that the accident had fractured one of the mountings, I have never had any other problems with hard luggage and much prefer it to the hassle of fixing soft luggage to the bike alleviating the possibility of dangling bungees or straps getting tangled up in the rear wheel.Hard luggage just bounces down the road

Yes - any fitter that says otherwise is just trying to rip you off.

Happened to a mate when his tailpack straps popped off - his badly broken arms never did heal properly. Tim you are one LUCKY bleeder. Hope the heart rate has finally returned to normal.
