If you intend to keep it I'd get that checked out.... Chances are if there is no scratches then it didn't go down and won't have compressed the protection, but thats not something you really want to take a chance on.

I ask because the hard armour is what cut Pete leg in half when he had his crash. Its nasty stuff.
The hiprotech is soft, but even though its sat snug in its pocket, velcro'd in, will still give you friction burns or cuts.
It's the semi-soft stuff, I think it's Hiprotech, it's certainly not hard. I have a lovely dead straight cut down the graze on my left elbow (under the armour) so need to work out what caused it!

Oh don't worry about that - I'll get it shipped to Arai to be X-rayed through work. Might just use it as an excuse to get a new lid!

Aye, thought so, took note of the jacket brand It might be from when you firt hit the floor? Possibly could have slid up your arm on impact? Friction can cause cuts. Only thing I can think of to explain it.

If your lids not got any signs of damage I can't see why you'd need it checked tbh, shouldn't be any difference to when you put it on before the crash.

I'd still like to see a practical experiment in a controlled environment showing what can happen if you continue to use a slighty damaged lid.

The manufacturers promote instant replacement as it helps their sales.

Now that I've actually had some time to just sit and think it all over, I'm a little bit sad. Seeing my big, beautiful yellow bike roll away, strapped to the back of a recovery truck. It's not a dignified or fitting end for such a brilliant thing. She'll be missed

Not quite ready to look at replacements yet either...

i'm in the same position so understand what it's like. very upsetting seeing her lying on the floor in such a mess... i'm still hanging on to the thought that i might be able to repair her, but know it probably wont happen

Just revisited the scene to see what I'd done wrong and work out what actually happened. Found the start of my skid mark and there's a nice ice-smooth patch of tarmac at the start of it all. It's only about half a foot in diameter but look what it's caused!

Also worked out where the car hit my bike. The picture below shows you the distance travelled - Dad is standing at the impact point, the tree is where the bike ended up. It's about 10-12 feet between the two, so the poor girl was thrown quite a way...
