Aargh.
That is a brilliant solution, I'd rather pay a couple of quid for a ticket, rather than £40 parking fine.

When I got stung for £40 it wasn't my fault, as I'd got held up at the dentist & overstayed the free 2hrs in this particular CP. I thought I'd left the CP before the 2hrs free had expired, but no

Do you read that as specific to cars and motorcycles separately or just in car parks where there are no lines at all? I'm not sure.
They will be talking about car parks with no lines at all BUT...

They mention motorcycle parking bays as being a separate thing from car parking bays so you could easily argue that as per their rules since/ if (i hope there wasnt or this argument doesnt stand up) there was no painted motorcycle bays then you have parked safely and within their rules. It wont have been written with this in mind but If there are no motorcycle bays where do you stand? - according to their rules only one vehicle per bay so if two bikes saved space & parked in the same car bay they could also both get tickets. Are motorcycles not allowed to park in this car park as the council have made no provisions for them?

It's the lack of clarity here that you should appeal on.

By the way the smiley was meant to be a number eighteen doh!

That's fine but isn't it "failure to display" rather than "failure to have paid" that gets you fined (or is that just road tax - I could be mistaken)?

I think even the stupidest of traffic wardens cannot deny that to have bought a ticket and keep it safe in your pocket is a far better option than hoping it's still there on a bike when you come back

How hard could it be to just have an extra option on a pay and display machine that differentiates between car and motorbike on the printed ticket? Then at least you have a far higher probability of it not being nicked..maybe?

Different wardens give different advice. I was told to write my reg no on the ticket for a bike so a cage driver could not nick and use it. But then you have to have a pen on you...

And there is no way a council or car park operator will pay extra for a "smart" machine if they almost never get bikes coming in!

'I parked it in a bay with a ticket on, prove I didn't...'

When they prove that you didn't, then pay the fine. Anyone can steal a ticket and wheel a bike round the corner easily for a laugh.

I'd say it was in a bay but someone must have moved it and put their car in the space you parked your bike
