They don't, and they are.

Some dynos let the engine spin down with the clutch out, to get an idea of the braking effects of the transmission and guess at the power loss through it.

But it's boll*cks, IMO. I am developing a dyno and not including anything like that. If you have a more efficient transmission, say you switched to a more slippery oil or polished gears for less losses or something, that would mean engine made less power based on that logic.

Its not a standard system thats for sure, i bought it from ebay second hand. I noticed an improvement to the bike when i fitted it. Not very scientific. I had another figure from the dyno, calculated by the computer and it was explained it was equivalent to a dynojet dyno; 83bhp. I will scan the print outs on monday probably.
Dont garages have to calibrate their dynos?

I would be well up for a .org trackday. I just need to do some suspension work first!

Yeah you're right, doesn't look stock. Not sure what it is though.

They don't have to calibrate them.

Dynojet dyno's are renowned for reading high.

Dyno's are calibrated by setting the atmospheric pressure and temperature, you can make a dyno read really high by altering these.

There are also different ways of correcting the figure given by the dyno to produce a "true" figure.

Have a look at this post.

There is more to it than that depending on dyno.

Determining correction factor is done per run, ideally you get the same result on a different day.

Other dynos have brakes which require calibration. Inertial types don't as the drum mass/inertia is constant

The guy at GP Performance has offered me a set of ohlins fork springs for a good price to fit a curvy. They are new, unused but do i need to know the spring rate? Im about 11 and a half stone and the forks on my 30k curvy are like mush.

Get the springs + these to have a good set up.

Similar to mini twins set ups, cheaper than having a cartridge set up installed

as mini twins can't use USD forks from GSXR's
