Hmmmm ....
Things not going to be as quite straight forward as I thought ... As its a freezin cold day, I'm taking the opportunity to weigh up the shock change on my 99 curvy ( '05 ZX 10R shock from fleabay)... same height (well, +1 mm ) and a few extra poundage. From reading various threads on here, and the advice on this thread (thank you!) I'm led to believe that the remote reservoir on the ZX shock means that I will have to cut the battery box (which is fine) and just put a bit of packing between the battery and the shock reservoir. But looking at my bike in a bit more detail, I see that the battery 'box' only has 3 sides: the front next to the shock is open and a bracket which hinges on the tank bolts holds the battery in place . However, it looks as though the shock reservoir will invade the space that the battery currently sits in -- meaning that the battery either has to be moved, OR one of those fancy 'slimline' batteries could be used (how slimline are they ?? ) Is this normal ? ![]() ![]() Hopefully you can see in the pictures ... If I cut the base of the box, will I have room to fit the shock / reservoir and keep the battery in its original place ..??? |

put spacers betwheen the subframe and the battery box mounting tabs (see the bolt on the dark-right
of the second photo) to bend the battery down and back. hack-saw the bracket on the tank hinge off. i had posted a picture of the above done to my bike somewhere on this forum. if you have a rear hugger, it'll have to go as well. |

Dont have a hugger, so no worries there .
Think I know what you mean -- so the battery "angle " goes from ~ 45 degrees to more like near-vertical ? and the shock reservoir becomes the front "face" of the battery box in place of the bracket OK thanks for that baubz, I'll check that out ![]() |

Mister C did a great how to HERE I Put a ZX shock on my curvy. It was quite easy really, didn't have to cut all of the battery tray or change the angle of the battery. I just cut some of the battery tray to make room for the resevoir and then put some packing in the rest of the existing tray for the battery to sit on. The seat will still fit... just!
Oh and no worries if you did want a hugger. I had one on mine and can't think of any reason why putting a ZX shock would mean you have to get rid ![]() Anyway take a look at the link for mister c's write up and you'll not go wrong ![]() |

bear in mind that '05 ZX 10R reservoir sits higher and it just won't fit with
the bracket on the tank hinge. paiste's version would suite someone fitting a 06-07 10r shock. |
