If your touring it needs to keep ahead of trucks doing 60 mph.

I appreciate your coment NETC but as 95% of my touring is done on 50-60mph max roads and trucks have lower limits in these circumstances I think 70mph max should be OK. One of the bigger considerations is fuel costs--i.e. something that does 80mpg against 40-45 mpg.The others being tax and insurance, currently £70 and £185 against £16 and £56 and as nothing seems likely to be getting cheaper it all matters to me,being on a fixed income with no increases of any significance likely.
Admittedly I have slowed down a lot in the last couple of years, downsizing my car therefor downsizing my bike follows as I no longer have the "Need for speed". Whatever I do in the end it is still a luxury toy to me so the cheaper the fun the better, just taking longer----

Well it looks like I am a two, sorry one and a half bike owner, just bought a Honda S-Wing used instead of new as I intended. I will hold on to the Triumph to see how things go with the scoot before I decide if it really is what I want.
[Second hand and knocked the asking price down a lot for cash,so even after I come back from my Scottish tour at the end of May I should be able to recoup my outlay or alternatively put the Sprint up for sale---we will see what we will see]

I still don't know if I am doing the right thing but until I give it a proper go I will not be able to evaluate,at least this way I have left my options open

Good move Mac, gives you a chance to evaluate life on a 125 before you sell the Sprint.

you'll notcice the limitation very quickly (I did with the HD) but once you accept you haven't bought something like for like you can start enjoying the type of riding you bought it for. That said, I was sure you'd go for something like a 400 bergman
