You don't need anything over 3-9x40 for air gun ranges, Ags SWAT scopes are good, nikko Stirling air kings are virtually unbeatable for the money. My air king is better than my £200 MTC Mamba 4-16x50.
JSR do good budget scopes

It also depends on what sight you intend to use, a standard cross or duplex is simple but you can't use it to rangefind like advanced sights such as mildots which also have additional aimpoints for windage and elevation.

I agree with Noddy, 30 yards is max really, 40 if it's a prone shot off shooting sticks or bipod, anything more and you've not mastered stalking enough or built the hide in a crappy place. Further ranges and get an FAC and use .22lr which is in my opinion superior to FAC air

Cheers for the tips, I do want to buy a proper rifle for shooting, just got to get some spare cash together after I've done my suspension upgrades. What would suggest as a decent starter rifle, and setup

Depends what you want Josh, PCP (easier to be accurate, recoil free but is not self contained and will require additional charging equipment) or a springer which as its description implies is exactly that. If you want a springer I would lean towards Air Arms, maybe a TX200 or prosport. Years ago I would have pointed you towards Weirauch but Hull Cartridge have recently been distributing guns with poorly finished springs. If you choose PCP the Air Arms S400 or S410 are good choices alternatively BSA Scorpion or Ultra. All the guns I have mentioned are great guns (I've owned most of them) and can be bought for very reasonable money on the second hand market.

As I said though PCPs will require additional charging gear such as a stirrup pump or dive cylinder which naturally bumps up the price quite significantly.

Start here, have a massive read, introduce yourself and people near you may offer assistance and goes on their kit. I'm the same username on there as on here. Have sold and bought alot of stuff on the site and regard it highly, they "can" be a little conservative and condescending to newbs who wade in, so I would exercise caution and get read up first.
I believe to operate a firearm you need to be educated fully in how they operate and what they can do. But then I am a Physicist so I'm a bit anal about knowing how things work
