What was the twist in that? Didn't they spend ages fighting the robot things, then at the end they just died by themselves? So if they'd just played a game of card in a basement somewhere, it would've all resolved itself. Good plot. lol

The original film ended in the same way ,but the new one started with a bang and then quickly turned into a damp squib .The original one was full of tension right through to the final part , where the last hope was to hide in the church and pray .The new one just fizzled out .I knopw independance day was full of the Americans yet again saving the day , but at least it kept buzzing alone up to the end.

The twist was that it ended exactly like all war of the worlds stories.

Apart from lacking he awesome epilogue where the aliens win.

I have to admit, all of the hype about that film made it sound like the greatest movie ever and when I finally saw it, I was bored and thought that they could have told the say story in the time it takes Wile E Coyote to buy more junk from ACME and saved me the evening to watch a good film like...

How could you not like that film, it was beautiful?! Mind you I quite enjoyed another Cormac McCarthy book that was turned into a movie, No Country for Old Men. Both of them were in their own ways, bleak, dark and painfully sad.

There is a scene in The Road that always moves me to tears ( I loved it so much I bought the DVD) and that is when the Dad and the boy lose everything that they have and then find the man who stole it from them. The Dad and the boy argue because the Dad insists that the thief is left with nothing, not even his clothes, pretty much condemning him to die. The scene is as much about the Father's loss of humanity as it is about the pathetic actions of the thief. Powerful, hard hitting and very emotive. Makes me cry every time.

Just had a chat with the Wife and she liked Avatar, but felt that The Road was a miserably dull movie.

Now, that version of the film I did think was quite cool, I loved the effects of people being turned to dust and the look of agony on their faces when it happened.

Do bare in mind though, War of the Worlds was published in 1898 and was a magnificent work in its day, possibly even the first published story of an Alien invasion.

Exactly, after over 100 years they've had time to improve on it instead of going backwards.

Should have just updated jeff Wayne's version.

Well maybe it wasn't a complete waste of time but was hyped up as an amazing film at the time and was a bit of a let down. I've not read the book either maybe I'd have liked it more then.

I've not got round to watching No Country For Old Men yet, that was certainly another film that was well lauded at the time though so I'm not expecting much but I'll reserve judgement until I've seen it.
