YC you are correct classically. I've used these on motorcycles of the past with good results without water cooled. There are stipulations however as you would guess. Under automotive use you should for sure. For long all out motorcycle racing application as in Bonneville, it's also a must. Since initially my application was my continued use as a daily driver, I didn't want to loop it through to the cooling system on the bike and know it isn't necessary.

Since the two water ports are open facing forward, I take advantage of running air from bottom to top allowing the top side with a connection that faces backward to escape the air being forced through. Just taking advantage of it's configuration. Also I made the bushings for the shaft with C93800 Bronze with slightly over sized oiling holes to get more lubrication under faster rotation. These things I've done in the past with good results without the need for water cooling. Specially on air cooled only bikes. Running Bonneville requires good bushings and cooled water for a 3 to 5 mile run WOT for sure!

So I finally figured out how to make an all in one priority breather valve, pressure relief valve under applied and blow off when throttle is shut. Required check ball to jump from different ports that act like switches. We use them in automatic transmissions for fluid circuitry switching. Anyway seems to work fine. I need to change the internal spring to get a little less pressure. Now I can get back to the anti-detonate tank. Also I can just reach down and make a twist or two as I boogie on down the road.
I tried loading a picture but the site seems to be having an issue at this writing. I'll load up one tomorrow if it will;

So a bit of an update:
I'm almost 2kmiles on the turbo now. Decided not to change out stock stator for now. If it launches, we'll know...but I really doubt it with this linear apply and pressures conservative. I run 4 to 6lbs with 91 octane mostly 4 to 5. Should be able to sneak some time to finally get the AD tank in. It's being painted tomorrow. As to driving...this dude is plenty fast.
I now have boost control which I now see the entire RPM range which is reallly nice. Without the control I kept seeing over 7lbs at times and worse on the freeway and I never saw over 7Krpm. In sixth gear boost is as low as 4500rpm under load. Once cruzing it will level at 0 till about 6500 then it's pressure. I've gotten quite comfortable with it as back as my daily driver and have it pretty well tuned in. One problem aside not having the water cooling is the fuel pump looses it's ability to provide pressure over 7lbs when it gets warm/hot which also leans it out...not cool! I ordered a Walbro 20lb'er and it's a vane type not a push/pull. I'll place it in a better air flow are as the warmer weather is all ready getting here.
I'm pretty happy with it's performance, so far it's reliability and just a couple more fail safes to go and I'll be even happier. I will take my first trip in a few weeks that will be an 800 mile round tripper. It's been worth the work. I will put the liten'd stator on after my trip though and looking forward to that but I want the miles on it and in the past two weeks I've been beating on it on the twisties up in these mountains. I have captured good footage now but will wait to put together another film as I'll get it on the dyno soon and take it out on a Friday night out at the drag strip. I also will have some runs with the TL and a couple other bikes for "comparison". I modified this bike to drive so that is what I'm doing! As to the picture, the upper is the blow off/priority breather and the lower is boost control signal to waste gate. Quite handy actually.

Hello dude, as usual this build is sounding amazing. Must admit its far beyond my technical understanding but sounds all good. You do all the hard work and then tell us dummies the headline stuff like "how fast it goes" and "does it beat a Hyabusa" etc etc

As for the pics, it very much depends what service you're using. Photobucket seems to be the most stable when direct linking pics. I simply get the link code and use the [IMG][/IMG] tag. You have to link each picture seperately as far as I know.

Can't wait to see that comparison video

This is my 3k mile up date at this point. Almost 3k will by by tomorrows end anyway. I have just about everything done the way I want it. However, I don't have a water reservoir sensor for water level just yet.

I've enjoyed driving this dude and finally have everything tuned in about the way I want it. I had a two week issue of a bad lean out under throttle that took me awhile to figure out which turned out to the pitot tube hole needing going up one size more. The symptoms were weird and misleading it's to long a story but need less to say got it fixed. I've been now at 6 and 7 lbs (up here it brings my effective compression level 15.47:1~ not accounting for other variables) for the past 3 weeks or so and comfortable there on certain days and turn it to 4 in the city. I do have one problem of have lost a bit of my bottom end torque that I need to balance out. That will be the next project, otherwise quite streetable and fun. Oh, without any boost my Effective Compression is 10:10.1~ fyi.

Still haven't put on the reduced weight stator and thinking I'll wait just a bit longer. I've been hammering on this bike and comfortably forgetting about all the tech crap and just driving the ps of it! A true testament to these engines is my hard driving and many miles now. Now over 80k miles and now I run it up to red line most all the time on these open roads. Below is a picture with the water tank on. There will be one of the same on the other side for more volume and some esthetics. I lost the little side cover just below the seat which I think pis me off more than most anything. Hate stupid stuff like that! Ordered another one and have to paint it and all that. Now it looks like a gaping hole. Will be putting a wheel hugger in the back to help keep crap off the rear pipe. I'll have some lettering going on soon as well just to break up all the blue. Most think the tank is NOS so I'll have the chemical HC break down characters put on it to either clarify or make it more confusing.

Will have some dyno time coming up and some Friday night racing as well as some film on running with other bikes for comparable. Should have the new film done in a few more weeks. So far so good and pleased with this bike. After all this comes some suspension upgrades for sure!

Very nice man, Looking forward to vids seeing it running. I just love how this community does some crazy stuff to their bikes. Someone somewhere will see your project and think "I want to do something like that" Nice job.

Hey all a quick update and answers to a few questions I've received via pm or just along the way. I can finally say, ALL the bugs are worked out and have enjoyed driving it immensely.

As to anyone doing this...They should.

A couple quick improvements to make in the next few weeks: I'm ordering the better head bolts from Spear and this week will finally put the Stator rotor on. I didn't realize till recently that the clutch hub and one way roller is larger on the Curvy models as the newer I think 03 on up went to a smaller diameter one. Just more mass to deal with on the curvy models. So I'm looking forward to getting that done. At that point I'll run 7lbs all the time.

As to an instructional, it's just a thought. I already have about 40 pages on just this build alone cause I expand on issues related to turbo charging specifics to this engine and bike. There is just gobs of information on turbo charging but I try to hit areas that are not as commonly talked about thus can get rather involved in tech.

I'm also starting to implement ideas related to the induction side that I utilize on my other bike and may tackle the electrical regeneration issue just to do it! Sounds like an interesting challenge. It would be really nice to run no magnets and cut the whole front off the stator rotor. Spears shows the dyno results related. Anyway, some thoughts for now.

For those curious, here's a Video on the The bike is advanced beyond what is shown now.

Quick update. Now that I've taken a few small trips with it I'm happy to say it's averaging better than I used to ever get. Today was around 57mpg with some hot doggin along the way. At 6k I'm always at a couple three pounds of boost. I usually run at 6 to 6500 rpm at cruise which puts me with my gearing at 85 and 92mph. SO I'm pretty pleased with fuel consumption. I rarely saw 51 to 52mpg driving at the same speed in fact mostly 48mpg was the norm. I now use a measuring rod that I carry to make sure I fill to the same level every time and use GPS for mileage as well as google. For video I have my speedo disconnected.

Which, I'm almost done with filming and real happy to report that I am right on par with the TLS1000 and Aprilla Falco. At ~5-6psig, if I get the jump they can not catch up or pass me. It's also a comfortable pressure here. Also with the cam profile corrected pressure combined with altitude, it's a very safe pressure. The gauge bounces a bit so I'm never real sure exactly what pressure is at times so thus the ~5-6. I have the signal coming from one intake inlet below one carb. I think I will take the signal off both and see if that doesn't smooth it out some. The pulses create the needle bounce which I'm waiting for it to go flying off in it's little capsule. The picture below is just a snapshot from the film. I've put the "I.V.E" on the top now. The roll on runs and drag runs are fun and telling of it's power. I think it will surprise you of it's performance. Me talking about it is one thing getting to see examples is way more fun. When I post the film I'll just start another thread. I may just do two separate films as it's getting to long and fragmented with subject matter. Anyway, it's almost done regardless. I'm pretty sure I've said that before!
