I agree with you, but I don't think that's completely fair, little old ladies are usually oblivious that they have collided with anything and carry on driving, their speed usually means there is minimal damage anyway lol. The blame lies with the young, inexperienced and wreckless.

For example, we have an Impreza WRX. The insurance, when we bought the car five and a half years ago, was £350 fully comp for the year, the car was relatively expensive to buy then.
Every year since the insurance has increased, presumably because as the car value gets cheaper, the younger driver can afford to buy it. One year, after quite a leap in premium I phoned around for quotes and every one of them bar my existing insurer were ridiculously expensive, or refused to insure the car. The reason, a vast increase in claims from young drivers buying these cars and putting them through the nearest hedge.
It has got to the point that the STI model, with bigger wheels, lairy look at me spoiler, and a significant power hike is actually cheaper to insure because they are still relatively expensive compared to the WRX.

It's just based on cost of claims paid out for each car, fairness rarely comes into statistics.

For an 11 yr old car they are actually in good condition. Recon it must have been garaged for most of its earlier life. I was going to give them a spray with Scottoiler FS 365 because I have a bottle in the garage, unless there is something better?

The insurance came in at £810 with Elephant and goes up to £1400 when she passes her test, not bad because Ka's aren't boy racer cars.

Gave her a service last week. Halfords wanted £24 for 5l semi which I thought was a bit much. then saw they had Mobile 1 fully synthetic for £22, interestingly the tappet noise has quietened down with the FS. However, this may be down to the previous owner not servicing it for 17k miles.

I still have the scars from doing my Landie with that stuff, need to see if there are any access holes to the inside.
