Oooooooooow. So I'll add that to my list of reasons to get a slipon

I tell you something, since I started doing my own servicing I play a lot less guitar... I seem to be missing skin or carrying small cuts or burns a lot of the time, and that makes dealing with guitar strings no fun.

Default R1 exhaust

After wacking the bajeesers out of the standard SV exhaust it was time for something new. I'm not a fan of straight through race cans and I wasn't intending to spend any such money on the same thing with a cheap baffle. I also wanted the additional midrange and slight fuel economy boost (around town) that I used to get with my old bad-ass Art exhaust.

A light exhaust made of titanium and aluminium would be nice since I am in the process of replacing anything that rusts or corrodes on the SV. Did I mention I wanted it cheap? Viper exhausts are the cheapest and start at around £70. There had to be another way...

Step in sv650.org reader Armat who bought an R1 exhaust for next to nothing in the US. I tried the same on the UK ebay and ended up getting one for £35 inc P&P.

Now the R1 exhaust is large; at least 1/3 more diameter. It's about a 1/4 longer so after fitting will be just behind rear fender length. It can only be fitted by drilling out the rivet and moving the holding bracket. This means filling the hole and covering up the area previously under the bracket, since it will be scratched to hell. Not fitted right it will rub/hit on the swingarm.

Fitting: Pain in the ****, grinder, link pipe, welder.

But, for the downfalls one has to be impressed. It may be large and beefy, however that means it's functional - passing far more volume than the restrictive SV650 exhaust (designed for SV400). Mid-range is noticeably better, engine braking slightly reduced and free reving at the top.

Performance : Like a race can.

You wont get pulled over by the police, however the low rumble of a naturally aspired V-twin is now present.

Noise: Lovely, without being obnoxious.

It's made from treated aluminium and annodised titanium (blue or grey) and weighs a little less than a stainless steel race can. Yamaha quality.

Quality: Spot on. Looks the dogs if not scratched.

Suffice to say it's staying on the bike. Pictures of this and my gold calipers/black forks coming as soon as the new camera lense arrives.

Andy.

Nice work that man- well, except from "Yamaha quality" which usually means "All the paint falls off if you sneeze" in my experience Pics on the bike?

Yes but you had a steel virago

I'm just waiting for a new camera lense then i'll finish the roll, get 'em developed, scanned and uploaded.

The only noticable thing keeping my SV from being smart is corroded bolts and nuts, but I'm on it.

Pictures soon...

Default Scorpion SS Can

Hi All,

Just had this Scorpion SS can added to my SV. I think looks great and I know it sounds great. Baffle is easily removed, just a simple hex nut, not so easy to refit as you have to re-seal it with Silcone. But otherwise a fine exhaust. May not be up to some of the outstanding pieces already shown in this thread.

It's more about the finish than anything else.
Some people really like CF, I prefer Ti but SS has the advantage that it's easy to take care of and relatively cheap.
A CF can needs to be repacked semi-regularly though and apparently Ti ones can develop problems if not repacked as well.
