Seriously though I reckon a lot of these replacements are more age related than mileage. I have 15,000 on the clock of an SY but my parts list is still quite long - all servicing and worn out parts. It will be interesting (if only to me) to see what happpens as I hit a 15,000 mile a year commute. I guess the parts list wont grow much
how's that, what parts of bike will age degrade?

rubber parts ? maybe, but my forks weren't rebuilt cause the seals were gone, the metal parts inside had worn out from wear.

tires are obviously worn out from milage @ 3,000/month before age would get to them I go thru 4 sets a year

radiator hoses, my bike is garaged, not exposed to elememts, wear on hoses is hot water inside them over miles

shifter linkage worn from the abrasion of thousands of shifts, an aged but unridden bike will not wear these parts out.

I don't think it is normal to expect the milage that I have got out of some things, like cables, clutch plates etc. the only thing I think I do different than most people it that I do not toutch my bike to do anything except ride it, I pay for all my work, including adjustments and cleaning to professionals, it cost me, but I am rewarded with trouble free miles and lower per mile cost in the long run

balancing the spit !!

my uncle has an MG sporty thing...... he keeps for shows etc..

I was in his garage and saw a stethoscope (he is a doctor) told him he had left it in there..
he says it is a tool to balance the car when he is a weekend engineer/mechanic and not a GP !!!

he lost me there n then ...!! me not technical or medical- so we talked about women !!!!
