Checked with the DVLA they confirmed that even if the tax disc is not showing but they have you on there records you are covered, its just a case of convincing the police

You can a duplicate one for £7 I think - it invalidates the old one though.

What I don't understand is why you have to display one at all. They have been very big on advertising that they have all the details on computer now and that they know if your tax disc is out of date and will automatically fine you.

So..... Why have a tax disc. If they know that you have paid the money and have this on record surely they would save a bundle of cash by not issuing tax discs and simply sending out a receipt.

Or is that just too sensible

Law hasn't caught up with technology. Once ANPR systems are as ubiquitous as safety (********) cameras, then the paper disc will almost certainly disappear.

Front left hand brake calliper thingy here (in Oxford holder).

Can't remember where I saw it but have a recollection of a biking jacket with a special transparent tax disc pocket on one arm...

You fellas have got to move to Spain! Basically you just carry on you the stamped document showing the annual fee has been paid. This is about €30 per year about 24 squid? The paperwork for buying a second hand bike though is a pain in the a*s and costs you about €320euros.Cant have it all I guess!
