Very good question Viney. There are a number of reasons for this:

- precipitation is usually higher in the North of England than in the South.

- ALL of the water companines are losing vast amounts of water due to leaky pipes etc. It is generally accepted that many of those regions that are suffering from low water levels are some of the worst offendors in this area.

- The water shortages are also a pre-text to raising water prices towards the end of the year - the population of the South of England is generally better able to afford the increased prices, so this area will be dealt with first.
