Have you read that back??? Common sense and napalm in the same sentance. Classic!

Hehe nice one PhillipMac, I used to get up to all sorts of stuff like that when I was a kid too! The thing is like you said; although we were kids playing with bangers, we were sensible enough to have rules. We never hurt any animals, and we always were blowing things up in fields or wasteground when nobody was around. Its all these chavs throwing them at people in streets and stuff that really annoys me. They don't need to ban the sale of them, just get more police out and about and when these scrotes get seen by the police, deal with them properly or go tell them to play with fireworks somewhere safer and less anti-social.

The problem is when kids get hold of them. I've never seen adults dicking about with them and blowing themselves up. Make the age restrictions tighter/better controlled.
If you tried banning them, people would just buy blackmarket ones, so there'd probably be as many if not more accidents (if you're buying blackmarket fireworks which are illegal anyway, you might as well buy blackmarket display ones, or chinese imports made with the same chemical as shotgun carts).

I will say this though; bonfire night is the one day a year I won't ride my bike and the week running up to it, I'm always on edge and will skirt round the rough bit of town (even though it takes longer). Kids throwing fireworks at me when I'm riding is something I think about a fair bit and it's quite a scary prospect.

As a nipper I used to mess about with fireworks, but as Warthog says, always on wasteground/away from other people, so if anyone got hurt it'd be us. For info, a pringles tub with a hole in the lid for the fuse makes a good waterproof firework that you can throw into a fast moving river for a good aquatic firework (water sprays up like a bomb has been dropped )

IMO, banning them for everyone because of some people illegally setting off fireworks in the street/throwing them is akin to saying cars and bikes should be banned because some people drive dangerously. The vast majority of people have safely carried out home displays year after year without incident.
