HI,

I recently replaced my mastercylinder with a radial type (Thanks again Northwind) I was struggling to get good solid feel at the lever with this and new braided hoses.
I stripped the pistons out of the calipers to check the seals and found this horrible slime in the calipers, looks like it gathers at the lowest point in the braking system. This stuff obviously defies liquid compression laws so I cleaned it out and also took the seals out and cleaned the recess which they sit in. This build up can cause binding as the pistons can't move freely.

All this and feel at the lever is good.

Hope this helps.

Matt

I'm going to order some HEL brake lines this afternoon, as advised by my cheif mechanic Interesting point though about the calipers though Matt, although I doubt that what you say is occuring as the brakes where stripped and rebuilt last year. Might be work checking them again though while I change the lines and have access.

Thanks everyone for you're helpfull replies and consultancy on this matter Hopefully changing the lines and having a clean out will solve the problem until I stick on a gsxr front end.

Matt, either you have air in the system, or the hoses have gone a little softer due to age. They have to be replaced every so often anyway.

If you do the hoses, you have to drain the system. So you'd rid any air anyway.

Looks like a win-win on the hoses.

My thoughts exactly. I'm just deciding now between HEL lines or goodridge lines

Might try some new pads while I'm there too, something a bit softer perhaps?

Thankyou everyone once more for all your thoughts

when i upgraded brake i put ebc HH pads on the front ss lines and dot 5 fluid and got a major improvment it wasnt bad before but i got a huge improvement. Then i put an 05 gsxr 600 front end on got the radial calipers ebc HH pads ss line dot 5 fluid and stock sv master cylinder and the handle was hard as a rock. I plan to put a radial master cylinder on but it is working extremely well now. As far as bleed goes did you try bleeding from the bottom up and pumping the lever up?

I had similar with new lines and proper bleed. I had gsrx calipers fitted and the bite was ****. Turns out it was the pads I got with the calipers were bedded in to an old set of discs and therefore not my discs . i got new pads and it was much better.
