Re: The All New Megathread
Morning all. Grey here at the moment but no rain, and it's forecast to be sunny later. My water butts are brim full after yesterday.
How's everyone's week going? |

Re: The All New Megathread
Visited Brodsworth Hall near Doncaster to go round the house & grounds, and also see the falconry display, which was fantastic. Far too long since I've seen them doing it.

Re: The All New Megathread
Morning all. Started out sunny but now grey and cloudy and that wind is cold.
Lots to get on with in the garden today, and with rain forecast for the afternoon I suspect the bike will be staying put. Hey ho..... |

Definitely an autumn feel around, and the wind chill is noticeable, but have to say that the cooler nights are welcome for better sleeping

Re: The All New Megathread
We're been travelling through Oxfordshire today. Every town/village is a 20 limit. Saw very few NSL's, nearly all were 50's. Is Oxfordshire in Wales?

Re: The All New Megathread
Morning folks. Wet and very windy today. Someone said it's the tail end of a hurricane. Happily my sunflowers and climbing beans are all still upright.
I think over time, 20mph will become the default for residential and built up areas everywhere. |

Re: The All New Megathread
Wales got the headlines with the 'blanket' 20mph limit, but many areas of the UK have similar situations at county level. Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire all have large parts of their road networks limited to 50mph, in my experience. Apparently Oxfordshire are similar. Scotland trialed 20mph limits a number of years ago but decided against a blanket limit change like Wales, although many of the trial areas have not put their limits back up to 30mph.

Re: The All New Megathread
You might be right Gary. Actually there's a 20 in Shrewsbury town centre.
I think there's a need for them on certain roads but not blanket coverage. Sent from my moto g(50) using Tapatalk

The problem with 'national speed limit' is that different types of vehicles have different speed restrictions. While motorbikes, cars and smaller vans can do 60 on a de-restricted single carriageway heavier vans and vehicles can only do 50. It kinda makes sense to have a clearly posted limit that applies to all vehicles. I always used to travel at 20mph on housing estates anyway, so the fact that our estate went to from 30 to 20mph six months ago did not bother me, but when doing 20 I still get people ( mainly young women, and women with kids in the car) sitting on my rear bumper - I can imagine their reaction if somebody ran over one their kids at 30 in a 20 limit. I think the problem in Wales was that any road with even one house was reduced to 20mph and it was ridiculous... Has anyone else noticed that when you get tailgated these days it is normally young female drivers doing it.

Re: The All New Megathread
Some of the worst offenders with regard to breaking the 20 limit around here are the farming crowd. The speed that some of the monster tractor and trailer/muck spreader/sileage machine combos, the size of and HGV, are doing through the centre of town is unbelievable. Most of them are not even within the old 30mph limit, never mind 20mph.
