Re: Vintage film cameras
We think its a late iid or a iie. Its got the 75mm f3.5 Xenar lens with the X sync upgrade and a lenticular focus screen with the grid.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Cool, Xenar is said to be a good lens. Serial number says 1948/9. Is it all working?
Mrs Rod is still agonising over Contaxes as she has nowt else to get me for Christmas it seems. It could happen I guess but I am starting to feel a bit bad about it. She is also getting the Zeiss fever that I no have to try to keep under control. |

Re: Vintage film cameras
So the other half is getting GAS then? It does seem to spread. Or do you mean buying for you? Is it the Contax ii she is looking for? I guess you have decided against a Kiev then? Serial number starts 1108 so puts around 49-50ish. All appears to be in working order but I need to run a film through it. I took the lens unit apart and cleaned it up as best I could for the taking lens and I also took the hood off to clean the taking lens up as well. I just need to stick the leather back down.

Re: Vintage film cameras
I was really stuck for things I wanted this year so I idly bunged her Mission Impossible. It's not going that well, you know what ebay is like. Hopefully a Contax iiA, wait and see what fate brings me.
I went off the lens serial number so I guess it's most likely 1949! |

Re: Vintage film cameras
Either way I am happy with it, didn't cost and arm and a leg either. That's a bit of a hard one for a non-camera collector to deal with!

Re: Vintage film cameras
I didn't bother in the end. I've got a mountain of toys to sell on ebay and a load of other things going on so I gave it a miss.
I think Mrs Rod is more up on the many variations of Contax than I am just now! She says she missed out on a couple of listings, I'm wondering if she's bluffing me. She sort of has her revenge as she bought herself a vintage tea set earlier this year. It was missing a couple of bits to we've ended up scouring gumtree, ebay etc. to find them, and I have a few things for her for Christmas, so I've had to figure that out. It's a lot simpler for sure but navigating the listings is harder as these things don't have model numbers or names, even if they did no one would know them any more! |

Re: Vintage film cameras
perused the Doncaster flea market this morning, not much there but saw a Seagull Reflex SLR. Didn't get it, seemed a pretty solid lump.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Was it a DF300? They are the same as the Minolts 300/370S models. I sent off three rolls this morning to Snaps. Canon AE1, and OM1/Trip 35 test films.
