Re: Vintage film cameras
Looking at the FM prices, it seems cheaper to buy them from Japan than here. But as you say, adding a lens would pretty much double the price. I'll try and contain the GAS until China next time. I found a guy selling reasonably priced used Nikons in Chengdu.
I plan to trawl through my lenses tomorrow, see what I've got and decide on which adapter to get for the OMD EM10. |

Re: Vintage film cameras
I donated out a lot of my bigger zooms. I still have a few including some AD2s.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Decided on an adapter for Zuiko lenses in the end as I've 50mms in f1.8 and 1.4 and a 28mm. In MDs, I don't have a wide angle prime. I wouldn't mind one for AD2s to really test out some of the lenses but most of the zooms are far too big and heavy for the OMD

Re: Vintage film cameras
You will have to hold it by the lens rather than the body. I looked at getting a Panasonic G2 but the lenses end up with a 2x crop factor on m4/3 so was a bit put off.

Re: Vintage film cameras
The crop factor and f value differences confuse me a bit too. Don't think I'll fully understand until I can see it and play around with it. I think the difference will be in the nature of the images rather than the IQ. It's not going to get me better results than a micro 4/3 prime. Will see how it all works in a few days.
Back in the film world, the OM2 is loaded and ready to go. |

Re: Vintage film cameras
I think a 50mm will end up as a 100mm or thereabouts. I finish on Friday until the new year so hoping the weather holds so I can get out and shoot. Got another Ricoh Auto 35 on the way, listed as shutter not firing but I think it needs film in to work properly.

Re: Vintage film cameras
The Auto 35 Arrived today but the shutter is stuck open, not closed. Hmm, this will mean a strip down to sort.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Make that three. Kiev 35A non functional arrived today as well. Hmm, now I remember why I didn't enjoy working on the other Auto 35. You cannot fully remove the lens from the body due to the meter and flash wires.

Re: Vintage film cameras
I'm the same with Tessar lenses. What is it with them? I've got two 50mms and neither worked. One is cleaned up but in pieces because I can't put it back together. The other, same lens type but different construction, seemed to have a jammed iris and wasn't stopping down so that's now in lots of little pieces too and the blades are soaking in cleaner. Hope I can reconstruct this one.
