Re: The Cycling Thread
You were lucky with the weather in Lewis for your trip
Your Frankenstein bike is very similar to my Handsome Dog, which was an mtb frame originally, i stuck 700c forks in it, and then 700 wheels and dropped handlebars. As it had disc mounts i could run 700 wheels in the rear, even though it was designed for 26in wheels!

Re: The Cycling Thread
Well I've just finished reading In Search of Robert Millar and I really don't know what to think it all... It's a great book and an interesting read but I don't know what to make of the man himself, initially I thought he was on the autistic scale but now I don't rightly know, one thing for sure is I don't have the capacity to go out and break myself to get the gains.
He's seems to have been a bit of a marmite character people either loved him or loathed him...

Re: The Cycling Thread
Agreed he is a bit marmite, but I loved watching him climb, such great style on a bike and one of my childhood heros. There was a documentary about him, they talk about it in the book. Some of the Episodes of "The High Life" are on youtube worth a watch.

Re: The Cycling Thread
I picked up these two for the Eroica britannia ride this year .. its a Youngs of Lewisham ( not 1960s ) but has really nice lug work and quite light considering the age ( 531 tubing apparently) . Its a bit big but I like the colour and fancied trying out bar end shifters. I really wanted a Carlton Professional so maybe a transplant if a frame ever comes up. Its Jnrs first road bike and one without indexed gears. I get an unfair advantage as his Raleigh flyer (circa 1987) weighs a lot more than mine !

Re: The Cycling Thread
pookie, the gearing on old bikes always blows me away, that thing looks like a right pita to ride up a climb. I also think its a disgrace that you're purposefully handicapping your son
Just watched The High Life, my god he's a tortured soul, the bit at 4 minutes in when he's talking about his family is painful, you can see he tries to smile it off that he doesn't get on with his dad but the way his face changes shows the truth, it must cut him up inside but being a Glaswegian he sure ain't gonna announce it to the world.

Re: The Cycling Thread
That's a nice piece of steel.
I'm still riding OS 753 and I don't think there's anything quite like steel. The way it flexes is special. |
