True, but its also been interesting in some ways to...

I remember going through a spell both on 4 wheels and 2, where I felt like I was invicible and I'd never ever crash. Then I had a few close shaves in the car, and again a few more on my 125 when I got that. I remember thinking back on it all a while ago and remembering I had a spell after every ride where I would sit down and think "sh*te, I only just made it home" and reflecting upon what I had done.

So directing us nicely back onto topic again. I think thats the flaw with the whole system. Teaching you to do a U turn doesnt really prove a whole lot IMHO. The swerve test actually seemed to me to be something useful, just a shame that they insisted it be done at 50kph or 31mph which meant it had to be done somewhere private as to do it in a residential area would have meant breaking the speed limit, which meant the DSA spent alot of money on test centres that now look like perhaps they will be massive white elephants.

I still think it would be better to teach some more useful stuff, such as road positioning for corners, hazard awareness, braking techniques stuff like that.

But then that would probably put the cost up, and you can do that yourself if you choose to go for advance testing once you have got your license...

I bought a Princess at the auctions once, was a top sha66ing motor for a young lad cos it had loads of room and the front seats folded flat. Even fat burds had room to wiggle about a bit

I've had a good read and think about this and it would appear that the best solution for the test would be to treble the speed of the swerve and have burn out u turns, all performed on a NSL back lane. Unrestricted licence must also include a wheelie in excess of 80mph.

The theory test should also have a discussion paper on the use of speed with added points for making your answer look like a drunken argument.
