A short trip down A4074 to pay respects. Continue A4074, A4130, A404 back to Shire.

This is only a sugestion. I'm open to any others. Speak up.
Sounds perfect to me. I assume we will stop at Fox's for a wee break/cuppa?

That's the plan. Like I said, I'm open to suggestions. I have no idea what these roads are like to ride. I just looked at the map. If I had my way, I'd have chosen B roads all the way. But also don't want to lose the focus and point of the ride.

A404 to High Wycombe - tedious dual carriageway
A4010 to Aylesbury - slow through HW, OKish to Aylesbury but mostly 50 limit
A418 to Thame - mostly fast sweepers once you get out of Aylesbury, part of my grand tour route
A329 - great fun for the bit you're using.

So the last half's not bad at all, but the first half is fairly lousy.

As an alternative, there's...

A404/A4130 to Wallingford via Henley
A4074 to Shillingford
A329 to Thame, A418 to Aylesbury
A413 to Bicester
Tingewick bypass and A4011 to Thame
A329 back to Shillingford
A4074 to Fox's

This has three plus points - There aren't many junctions where you do anything but go straight on, it passes the scene anyway and it's precisely the route of Mark's last ride. The minus point is that the bit from Shillingford to Shillingford is completely and utterly superfluous and it takes a good 2 hours.

Well volunteered.

I don't want to throw a spanner in the works and am more than happy to follow any route but......isn't this more of a steady paced ride rather than a hoon?

If I'm honest I'm considering giving up large group riding all together. Of course I will make this one but I think I'll be at the back of the pack following at my own pace. Sorry to derail.

You'll not be on your own mate. The route shouldn't matter. It's the speed you wish to travel that matters. Said it before, I'll say it now and no doubt I'll say it again. You go your own speed on rides. Let the fast boys be fast and the slower ones go slower. No problems.

So true. Sorry, just not feeling all that confident at the moment. I'll be there regardless of route.

OK, concrete suggestion time:

11am meet at the Shire so the loos are open, 11.30am departure.

A4 to A404
A404 to A4130
A4130 via Henley to Wallingford roundabout
A4074 via Shillingford to Fox's.

This is the "usual" TVSF route from the Shire to Fox's, it passes the scene so everyone can stop if they want, then on for a moment of reflection over a cuppa at Fox's.

The route took me 40 minutes last Thursday evening in the car, so a sedate trundle by bike should take about the same.

+1/-1 ?
