Of course not, it was a coincidental and purely hypothetical question

Email to the editor of RiDE for info....

Hello, Colin.

I eagerly awaited your survey results regarding locks and chains as I rate bike security very highly.

Having read previous surveys, and in particular about Almax chains and locks, I was fully expecting to see Almax head and shoulders above the rest of the competition as they are previous RiDE survey winners.

Please can you explain why Almax doesn't feature in your most recent survey. The top two scores of 9/30 fall well short of what I expected and I'm highly surprised and disappointed that Almax wasn't even mentioned in your report.

This raises several issues.

1. Was this a deliberate decision to exclude Almax? If so, is this not censorship?

2. If this was not a deliberate decision, why was RiDE, purportedly an independent bikers' magazine with its finger on the pulse, unaware of arguably the leading chain/lock combination supplier.

3. Consistency. Almax have featured in previous surveys but not in this one. Are you suggesting that that Almax scored less than 1/30 in this survey? Somehow, I doubt it.

4. If you are not willing to independently evaluate the full range of contenders in a category, it casts serious doubts over your magazine's integrity and impartiality, particularly when the "winners" in this survey score a measly 9/30.

5. If you reference recent issues of the Motorcycle News, you'll realise that motorcycle theft is a hot topic and one that is of great interest to bikers. I therefore expect the highest level of integrity. I'm not convinced you've offered this to your readers.

Your magazine's reputation is very much at stake owing to the flaws in this feature and it has been discussed on internet bike forums. However, I look forward to hearing your argument for excluding a market leading company.

Thank you.

ooooooo im devestated!!!!!!.....when i bought my series 3 and squire you had to buy an anchor too for the tailpack .....with a 3 month old baby (my avator!) money is tight...so as it stands i can only use the almax chain at home as too heavy to carry anywhere else....bristol centre evryday......

I emailed maxine at the time and you did agree that if i bought an anchor at a later date you would throw in the bag....which was very fair...however being a skint dad ive still not got the spare money to justify to the mrs!!!!...

well theres my sob story....do i get a pm...do i? do i??!!!!

good things come to those who wait

Thanks for my big chunky chain Almax, kept my bike safe for nearly 2 years and it's been 'disturbed' a couple of times too. Great stuff!

I like my terrible Oxford, because I can actually lift it unaided But you could cut by snipping at it with your fingers as though playing stone-paper-scissors.
