DD is spot on, the advantages to that setup are small and the disadvantages are not.

For optimum performance and balance the rear will need looking at too.[/quote]
Do you recommend complete change or just the shock for ohlins or something.

Depends on your budget. Some shocks from other bikes will fitt with a bit of modding or you could go for shock that's made for your bike but the cost will rise sharply for that i.e a new Ohlins shock will set you back about £450 compared to about £50 for a gsxr/ZX shock (depnds whether you hqave a curvy or pointy?

I don't object that much to the SV standard rear... Don't get me wrong, I have a Ktech'd Ohlins, and I love it, but while it was off at Ktech I had the old stocker back in and it did the job pretty well. Did a trackday, though a very slow one, without a glitch. I think the more capable front helps to sort out some of the rear end issues and cut down wallowing.

Personally I reckon that the GSXR/636 swaps are the best balance, you need to spend 5 times as much or more for a proper shock but they're not 5 times better. It's bodgey as hell but it works quite well. My favourite thing is that, to my ar5e, the B-model kwak 636 shock works better in a curvy SV than it does in the kwak
