I must confess, I have recently taken to not nodding at BMW riders for that very same reason. Plus I have restricted my nodding when filtering on the M62 as lately I've been needing to keep my wits about me!

So when my bike is written off (lets hope not), or I borrow one of the local's scooters (I live in a small village) as my battery is flat & I need to get to work in a rush....

... then I won't get nodded at, despite the fact that I'm no longer "serving my apprenticeship" ??

Makes no sense to me.

Plus, it's fun to nod a the legitimate scooter kids, they're usually so shocked they almost fall off!

I always nod to people on bikes. Part of the biking community that makes us different from the majority of car drivers
Will nod to someone on L-plates as I remember how good it made me feel when I was on my 50cc bike and got a nod from big bikes

This was my 50

Ok so it's not a typical 'ped but still only a 50 with L-plates. Got a surprising number of nods on my way to college

On my commute I always see the same bikes and we always nod to each other now (on my SV that is)

You would've got a nod from me on that. Nod at any proper bike (has gears) or any cleverly disguised scoots (look like they're geared bikes at a glance). Hell, even the Gilera caught me out a couple times till I got used to seeing them around!!

Legitimate scooter kids are one thing. I will nod to them, as I will nod to kids on 50's and 125's.

I won't nod to the scooter chavs who have obviously only got one because they aren't old enough for a souped up Nova.

Last time I saw one of those, I sailed past him at 70mph (in an NSL officer), maybe a foot away from him, and perhaps bouncing off the rev limiter.

I was pleasantly suprised this morning to have 100% of my nods reciprocated. Even from the two ped riders I passed (although they both looked completely bewildered)

Must be the sunshine eh. Speaking of which looks like we're in for a few good days.

Nod to most except the ones filtering at 1mph who won't be nice and move over for 2 seconds. I get out of the way of the couple of headbanging DR's that you occasionally see.

Nod to most riders, no matter what they on. Overtaking a bike I will wave with left hand if safe. If a bike overtakes me I will stick out right leg.

The leg waving thing is from Europe and I love it. Overtaking a bike in Europe they are on your right and so you cannot use throttle hand to wave, so use a leg. You can wave with left hand at oncoming bikers in Europe, more friendly than a nod.
