done that with a wee bit of toothpaste on the rubber stoppers they don't meet the opposite rubbers. the catch looks fine and operates perfectly. i suppose if i really don't figure this out i could always just shave some off the bottom of the lock mechanism where its mounted as its only plastic and in theory, lowering the mechanism will in turn lower the seat and the cowl. shouldn't have a problem locking after as there are matching holes in the subframe to the mechanism holes so the seat n' cowl stumps would pass through if the tips protruded out of the bottom of the mechanism when in place.

Ok, so can you take the catch mechanism off and see how the cowl/seat fits? Would prove if it's the lock or not. As your seat has the same problem, it must be a problem with the rear of the bike.

never one to back down by a challenge i went to work. after some use of a bar and a brick, some washers, a little imagination, a sock(temporary solution), and some trimming of rubber stoppers here is the final results, before and after. pretty happy, it all works perfectly and nothing was mentally modified. just tweeked a bit.....

firstly, i took the thick rubber washer things off of the two fairing screws either side of the lock mechanism. under the plastic holder bits i put a few washers(to lift the fairing ever so slightly) and one on top before the screw. next i took off the lock mechanism and smacked the bar it is mounted on a few times as it was slightly bent up. only slightly but it helped. then i found where the fairings match together(little screw area between rider and pillion seat) was sagging slightly(due to lower small screw bracket under rider seat being broken). i got a sock, rolled it up and stuffed it between the it and the undertray(stuffed in from rider seat gap, not from fairing/lock gap). this filled the fairing out and up a bit. bit of tweeking of the rail at the rear of the bike where the seat and cowl bracket thing goes under and hey presto
