If they don't want a slap they shouldn't annoy big coppers with batons - it's not a hard concept to grasp.

Fair don't think so-asking if anyone can id any of the coppers is way wrong-what happens if some idiots take it upon themselves to visit his home with his wife and kids inside eh?

police or not, you cant legally hit people because they annoy you. I wish I could hit people when they annoy me sometimes, but I cant. just becasue police are able to use violence, dosent give them the right to use it indescriminatly.

same as soldiers, they cant use violence indescriminatly.

Well in majority of cases they will- human nature. And I bet you'd all be whinging if a full uncontrollable riot did take place and business and property is damaged, people both involved in the riot and innocents that aren’t get injured

The police can’t win

Coppers getting hurt somewhere along the line, I can't say I'm surprised that this resulted from them cordoning people in an area for no particular reason.

(1) If I start something, I expect exactly the same response as to a guy ie. if I slap a guy, I expect at the least a slap - I started it, and if I cant finish it, tough. Which is why I dont start anything physical, Im cr*p with physical violence - I also dont expect to be defended, either!

I dont think what that cop did was right BUT I wasnt there and dont know what the full situation was. IMO he had a look of enjoyment on his face when he got his baton out, but I could be wrong. eg what was she doing/saying?

(2) its about time the cops got the same pay as MP's (or, if it was a sane world, they should SWOP their pay for the MPs) get. I dont know the full salary figures but considering the job, its not enough (I heard £26k a year);

(3) I dont want to state the obvious but "democracy" isnt that different from any other system when you have to manage populations, it comes down to a few systems to do this and as it is well known, the people in power want to stay in power - and only wanted power in the first place, not to make my life easier/more democratic. The UK have been "found out" to condone/participate in prisoner torture etc...how exactly are we any better than any other country?

I was raised to be polite to police/officals, honest with my tax return and above board in personal dealings (just dont play monopoly with me, I turn nasty) - does this put me at a disadvantage? Yes. Will I change? No.

Rules of engagement should work both ways.

The police would be quick to nick me if I battered a burglar who was damaging my property. Hence why I have no sympathy when they bring down a $hitstorm on themselves with stupid acts like these.

If a crowd see a group of people getting away with aggressive behaviour towards the police, a riot could easily have happened. I'm lucky I have never been in the police's situation where you have to make these snap decisions while under pressure, but a slap seem a small price to pay to prevent more unrest starting.

I think really it's only those who have been surrounded by a mob are qualified to express how frightening that must feel, I don't envy the police in that situation at all.

I'm 41, and was brought up to respect the police, and would NEVER behave like that towards a policeman-sadly that seems rare these days.

Ive always wondered why people are surprised when soldiers act against people throwing stones at them in foreign lands. why keep throwing things at someone who is much better armed, given time, they will react.

i would sit there throwing peanuts at the biggest guy in the pub, then act surprised if they punched me.

(sorry, bit off topic)
