and as long as you have sent off the form then you will be ok, He said we used to get free post envelopes, but since they don't any more then it wqould cost nearly £50 to post all the forms back.

Bearing in mind it's probably going to be wet does anyone have any tips for preparing the bike? I'm thinking of taking my lowers off and leaving my pillion pegs on to protect the bodywork and exhaust in the event of an off. Plus the usual taping/removing of lights/mirrors.

Yes, it is one of those two words. The one which exists

Oh, and as for the gaffa tape, don't bother. It'll be through in a millisecond so it's just a good way to waste time applying/removing.

I have, however, created a porcupine like 'forcefield' of crash bungs from eBay in the vain hope that they might save the enormous plastic boat-hull of my VFR.

My advice:

Make sure the bike's tip top - Tyres, Brakes, levels etc - if in doubt service/replace/top up etc

Tape up the lights

Remove the mirrors

Tape over the speedo - you do NOT want to be looking at it

Buy crashbungs if you haven't already - even cheapies will help

Make sure your gear's ready

Take plenty to drink, sugary snacks (you'd be surprised how tiring it is)

Get a good night of sleep beforehand

Turn up early so you can check your bike over ready

Basic tools, and some jubilee clips, zip ties and gaffer tape

Licence - both parts

Full tank, plus money for petrol (spare FULL petrol can if you can bring it)

Make sure your lid is ACU gold approved

First aid kit

Various pills like paracetamol, allergy pills etc - you don't want a runny nose runing your day.

Spare glasses/contacts if you need them

Clear and dark visor if you have them
