I don't buy into the "cannabis leads to stronger drug abuse" stuff- if you have an addictive personality you'll find your crutch no matter what it is-if its drugs , alcohol or exercise so be it-but unless your a non smoking, non drinking, no vices living person you can't judge
Thats very true.Substance abuse (legal or otherwise)is largely the symptom of the person's underlying problems rather than the cause of them.

Disapointed in this Loz, alcohol is just as dangerous as many drugs, and has been proven to be more dangerous than some (including class some A's). All addictions are treatable (though that person will always be an addict to some extent) but ALL will leave some kind of mental/emotional scaring that a person must work around. Kate will quite happily tell you about the damages, mental and physical, that alcohol causes, as she works in a rehab centre.

True strength of character would have been to not become addicted in the first place.

I would definatly have to disagree. Appreciate your opinion, and as you later state you detest drug usage and with this I think it has blinkered you to only seeing one outcome for drug users.

Both drugs and alcohol can be addictive. Addicts of either can recover, probably not without some mental/physical scar but they can recover to lead "normal" lives.

I have seen a 50 year old man, recover from a life time of heroin abuse. I have also seen a 26 year old girl die of alcoholism (this is not treatable!)

Success rates are probably out numbered by the failures, how ever, there are success stories but how you perceive drug users has made you focus on the failures.

If you think that alcoholism is easily treated in comparison to drugs, you should spend a day where I work. The damaging effects that alcohol misuse can have on your body and mind are just as damaging as that of some drugs. It's sad. But I see it every day.

I take my hat off to anyone who has been recovered from an addiction.

I don't think strength of character can determine whether or not your body becomes chemically addicted to something.

20-20 hindsight is a great virtue which none of us have, including you.

I just don't agree with praising ex-addicts, making out they have achieved something.
