It is all very well going on and on and on about the more expensive lenses but i am pretty sure Kwak has no inclination to spend that sort of money and i can not say i blame him. In many cases some of the consumer lenses do a very good job that please many amateur photgraphers.
I have many pics taken with a simple Tamron 70-300 that cost me just 80 quid 2.5 years ago! Of course they are no where need pro quality pics and some will see the obvious flaws but too many average photographers the pics look good. Here are a few examples using this lens to show you what i mean. These were all taken on a 6mp Pentax dslr and while they are not brilliant in any way i do consider then better than the average snap shot. I hope this wets your apetite Kwak as the long tele zoom opens up a new world to you. It can be a lot of fun if you choose your cheapo lens carefully and learn how to live with the limitations. Glad i had the tele for the lion pic
At the end of the day i get enjoyment and am happy with the results and thats what counts.

Those are lovely TC3, but then, I've come to expect nothing less of your photos

Robchester, get yourself over to strobist for inspiration on using off-camera flash.

Cheers

Strobist is a good website. Helped me a lot understanding wireless flash and i now have 3 Nikon speedlights and stands etc as a portable studio set up. I often need to take pics of scale models of schools, for work as well as interiors of schools we build/demolish.

Glad you like... i normally just keep a 70-300 on all the time when i visit a zoo. As i mentioned before you need to get lucky to get a copy of the Tamron i used for those as many suffer from the purple fringing problrm to an unacceptable level. The Sigma APO that has been suggested to you by a few of us is your best bet as that is fairly sharp, contrasty and does not have much purple fringing.

Kwak, if that is the standard for you then okay.

Good Luck.

Matt why not show some of your decent pics so that Kwak can see how spending a lot of money will improve on his photos. While the pics i posted are lacking in many areas it would be good for Kwak to see at first hand the standard you feel he should aspire to. I am sure you must have some pics you can post too.

I would have already but I am not anywhere near home and won't be for a couple of weeks. Yes, I know it sounds like an excuse.

Here is a link to some relevant material http://www.oz-images.com/ Note that it is not my gallery and the work presented there is much better than anything I have ever done in this area.
Much of his early work was shot with a Nikon D70, Sigma 70-200/2.8 and a Nikkor 300/4 (which may have been purchased on eBay) and a 1.4x TC. Later he moved to a D2X body and lenses unknown to me and I have no idea what he uses now.

Cheers

PS. My previous post might have appeared a bit pi**y. It was not intended to be.

Good idea. Sometimes its hard to see just how much extra picture quality yu get by investing in decent glass. I was blown away by just how much better the pics my Nikkor 70-300mm takes as opposed to the 55-200mm that I was using previously. They are worlds apart...
