Top box is a no no.
Panniers, absolutly fine  With sleeping bag, net blah blah. Wouldn't mind a top mounted bag next time though, just becuase you have to setup the straps under the rear seat, so takes 10 minutes to sort it all out. Not great for doing ever day, but the bike took panniers fine. Heavier to tip in, but still plenty of knee down action
