Years ago, a friend of mine used to 'fancy a chinko' .
Another friend of mine used to send the kids to the 'Paki shop round the corner' .

Both were not racist people but that is not to say, they have to remain ignorant...

Personally...and I can't tell you why....I've never felt comfortable saying Chinko, Paki shop or calling the Police 'Pigs'(know/knew friends/acquaintances who do/did) .
But that's just me and of course, doesn't necessarily make me better than the next person .....
I take your point and don't disagree with you about ignorance.

What I'm saying is when somebody calls that sort of use of terms racist they make a mockery of what actual racism is.

The point I make is there are doubtless lots of well spoken middle class people who would be up in arms about an asian moving onto their street... but they wouldn't say paki because "that would be racist".

Seriously mate, what point are you ultimately driving at here? The population is 92% white, and almost 86% of the total population are white British.

There is an element of paranoia to your posts. Are you afraid the UK is spiraling its way down into something?

Thats what my main point is in this thread, a lot of people dont know what racism really is, the stuff they might hear is just words, nothing more nothing less, hardly worth getting your knickers in a twist over.

Some people are way to oversensitive and I find that they are usually the ones with a chip on their shoulder

Context is everything. a 4yr old is likely to repeat what he hears at home without really understanding what it means. Its the meaning behind what is spoken that is in most cases intentionally offensive.

What's the difference?

Assuming you compare like with like, is disliking fatties any different from disliking gays?

We are pretty much on the same page.

It's indeed unfortunate that sometimes , unintended consequences do occur...no matter what side/angle of 'the debate' we look at.

You believe that statistic mate, i wish i could say brum was that way. what about the many many thousands of illegals that are here.

My point apart from what ive said above is im sick to the back teeth of racism being used for everything, why is calling someone a specific thing any worse than another?

Im never gonna change the views of the dudley do rights in this country so im probably wasting my time, i'll keep my views to myself in future or i'll be seen as a 'racist'.

If i say im having a chinky one night, its not because i hate the chinese race and i want hitler to execute them all, its a term thats used, thats all.
