Dont be an artist - unless you cant paint, of course then you can cut up dead animals or put a minging old bed or a brick wall in an exhibition and become very rich and famous for not being talented at all

Listen to ED-----Get into something you are interested in and keen on whatever the pay is like. There will always be opportunities for betterment later, but there is nothing worse than getting stuck in a career path that you hate every minute of.

Also try to look ahead ten years. Will your chosen career still exist by then?A lot of IT jobs will emigrate to India and other cheap labour areas over the next few years,as will any job that is done entirely over the phone or internet.Looking back, who would have thought in 1979 that their chosen job in the coal industry would be history within ten years?Plenty of other examples of that throughout British industry so beware the "safe job".

I'm a Personal Assistant at CEO level in Private Equity - also know as the "sexier side of finance". Altho' it's still admin, I enjoy my job given levels of responsibility, the team spirit and my boss is a good one. It's also really refreshing to find a guy who's a PA and you'd be a rarity.

My advice to you generally would be to aim at the highest level you can.

Or become a gardener - they earn **** loads, work outside and get a tan.
