<conspiracy theory mode>Unless Stepney was told by Ferrari to pass on the information, in order to screw McLaren. Ferrari couldn't have planned this better, as McLaren have lost big time</end conspiracy theory mode>

Sad, but I've read the whole thing. Although there's no evidence that McLaren directly copied any complete design of Ferrari's, it's the repeated exchange of information between Nigel Stepney and Mike Coughlan and how he (Mike Coughlan) shared the information with other McLaren employees who themselves failed to notify the FIA and take appropriate action that's really ****ed them off and it's why McLaren have been found guilty.

I'd still like to know how Ferrari became aware that McLaren were in possession of Ferrari's confidential information, though.

<conspiracy theory mode>

Because Ferrari set the whole thing up themselves.

Don't forget, Stepney STILL denies ever having sent the dossier to Coughlan - so if he didn't then someone else did, probably with the management's full knowledge, hoping that McLaren would bite, which it appears they did - allowing Ferrari (via the Ferrari International Aid) to actually win something this season

</conspiracy theory mode>

Well this whole cloak and dagger business is infinitely more interesting than anything that happens on the track in F1 dont you agree?

All of this thread acts as a thin veil to disguise Supervox's love of all things Italian!

I love Italy !!

I had a fabulous time working there back in the 90's (including a wonderful Xmas day in a television studio with free food, free booze & the Dagenham Girl Pipers marching band - but that story belongs on a different forum !!)

It just seems that Italian sports teams seem to have this 'win at all costs' mentality - even when competing against other Italian teams (think of the recent soccer scandal) !!

I find it ridiuclous that special blame be sought for Alonso and De La Rosa. Yes they should have appreciated that the information should not be in the McLaren domain but I have not seen it stated anywhere that they instigated the obtaining of the information? They were copied in by an idiotic Mike Coughlan.

I also read on a news forum today a post by a guy who claims his friend works for McLaren. His friend was told what to say when giving evidence to the enquiry. His given evidence contradicted "apparently" that almost EVERYONE at the McLaren HQ was aware of this Ferrari information being with them!
If this was the case then there would have been more evidence than a handful of emails/sms via two drivers and one rogue engineer.

This whole thing stinks, i scan read the whole report, love this quote.

8.12 The evidence leads the WMSC to conclude that some degree of sporting advantage was obtained, though it may forever be impossible to quantify that advantage in concrete terms.

The WMSC seemed to have managed to quantify it though.

The whole things seems to lack proper credibilty, the other problem is what happens when people move companies now, will they just have to forget everything that they knew/designed?

Looks like it bonus time for the boses of the FIA, new boat each perhaps?
