Re: The running thread.
My missus moaned at me that I needed to be on farceache so I could see some of the pics from the 1/2.
Plus she thinks I should join a local running club to run with other weirdos - like me. So I gave in and joined. Only planning to use it for running. So I have liked a few local runs etc, joined a running gear buying page and joined the run 1000 miles in 2019 page! I had set myself this goal after doing 100 in Jan - next step up. Anyhow just had a quick look on there and one lady from Wales - you lot must be mad - has already done 304 miles this year! 49,000 foot of elevation gain... Hoping this sodding cold finishes soon as I'm over it and more importantly I've only done about 24 miles so far this month!! Last edited by shiftin_gear98; 14-02-19 at 04:26 PM. |

Re: The running thread.
Lots of long runs and shiny medals in this thread I see! Well done guys!
Well, following swiftly on from my last run... which was in June I've decided to try improve my stamina and general fitness. Try to stay off the alcohol and thin out the xmas/unemployment belly a bit. I really need to slow myself down rather than sprinting and knackering myself after half a mile. Which is difficult for me, I've always been more of a sprinter when it comes to running, swimming etc. Which is why my stamina is so bad. So I went for a nice slow jog tonight around the block to break myself in. I can definitely go further tomorrow. I just need to keep my speed down |

Re: The running thread.
Good man Darren, keep it going. Slow and steady, build it up over a few weeks.
Finally made it out onto the trails this afternoon with Mabel. First time out for about a week. Five enjoyable miles of hills, forest, riverside trails and mud! All good stamina building stuff. Got a couple of events coming up over the next few weeks so I need to be out there a bit more regularly now. Some pictures from the run. Re: The running thread.
Good on you Darren for getting back out there.
I always thought of myself as a "sprinter" when younger. At 13 I ran 100 mtrs for Hampshire through school events, however was hopeless at anything over 400 mtrs. The 42 year old me is about as far removed as you could get from a "sprinter". It's now all about just enjoying it and getting to the end! And yes getting fitter is a bonus. I too have cut back on the booze, it's now only aloud in at the weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And as I'm an old git I don't do hangovers so it's always in moderation. Once you have found a pace that suits you it does make it a lot easier. This cold is really making me feel rough, I feel worse as the days are going on not better. I am hoping to go out at lunchtime as my sanity needs it, even if my body just wants to lie down. |

Re: The running thread.
Take it steady Martin. I was warned quite sternly a while back, by an older, very experienced runner of the dangers of possible lung damage caused by running while suffering with a chest infection!
Just added some pictures of yesterday's run in my post above. |

Cracking pics Gary.
Did you run through that mud feast in Pic 1. Good resistance training indeed. |

Re: The running thread.
Well I got out, now I just need to stop coughing!!
My brother in law has recently decided he likes my idea of running at lunchtime so he started to do my loop last week. He's the one I did the mud run with, and am doing it again with in May. As he's also my boss it meant I didn't have to rush quite so much to get back and changed in time!! Result. Today was the first time we have gone together due to me feeling rough last week and not wanting to do myself another injury to my back before the 1/2. Plus, and Gary you'll like this. As we have an office dog half of the week - his, Ozzy. He came too. Shame the dogs damn fast - Labradoodle - stupid name, as too is my brother in law (10 years my junior), and my lungs are mullered today! I'll admit I struggled to keep up today.
