No. I stripped them and then polished them with a bristle mop in a drill. I could have re-laquered but past experience has shown me that it doesn't last. I found it easier just keep them bare but well polished with Belgom.

As I can get to the casings (and chrome exhaust) without problem I'll wipe them with a lightly oiled cloth. He won't be used until spring so I don't need to worry about picking up grit or dirt and it will wipe off easily with MPC when the covers come off again.

My next bike will have painted cases and no chrome! Then I can be a bit less paranoid about the weather, plus it will be easier to clean!!

Bike sailed through the MoT, with just one advisory for the lower exhaust joint which still has a very slight leak. I'll sort that properly tomorrow. Had a nice little detour through Ceri and Sarn on the way home. Lovely piece of road, but...........see GotD

Two broken fence posts to dig out today. Not a job I enjoy, in fact I was dreading it. In reality only took me a couple of hours and I've had satisfied smirk on my face all day.

I recently put in a Metpost repair spur driven down into the rotted off wood in the concrete base. Metal spur is supposed to go in between the concrete and existing wood so I can't understand why it didn't go in vertical ,but it isn't plumb. Anyway, with a bit of faffing about trimming bottom of new wood post ,several screws and a coach screw ,the post is plumb. But how else do you do it without digging out the existing concrete which is a pig of a job ?!

I had my fence replaced, the old fence had metaposts which had been concreted in and the thought of removing them was daunting. The fencing guy showed up with this "gizmo" (tech term), it was a large lever with pivot and a clamp to fit around the post that, as it was depressed (levered downwards), the clamp tightened down harder onto the post. He had 3 posts out in less than 10 minutes.
