Re: Photo Comp - Chat Thread
Shame about the woman in the left of your shot Troy, you can see where she moved during the three exposures.

Re: Photo Comp - Chat Thread
No, sorry Troy I'm afraid it's a rubbish pic and would only have been any good if you had somehow got this man in the picture in this pose wearing this outfit. Then I'd have been impressed...

Re: Photo Comp - Chat Thread
Ah stop being intimidated you guys, its a cracking shot but we don't do this to find the best person and alienate them, we keep it fair by the winner not participating next month.
I must admit I've got nothing to compete with most of this month's submissions but I'm hoping to be able to take SOMETHING to submit. If we are being defeatist why not declare troy the winner and get him to pick the next topic now?

Re: Photo Comp - Chat Thread
I only have a passing interest in photography really, I'll try and capture shots on days out or holidays etc so please don't laugh at my questions! What is HDR and how do I go about having a go at it?

Re: Photo Comp - Chat Thread
HDR is "High Dynamic Range"
The basic premise is that digital cameras can't capture a particularly large range of light & dark (certainly less than your eye can). This is why you often have the sky blown out to pure white if it's brighter than the subject, or the foreground goes to black if it's darker. In HDR you take a series of photos from exactly the same position some very dark, some very bright, and merge them together to get detail everywhere. Sometimes it looks quite natural, sometimes it looks very sci-fi. I can't do it so I choose to pretend it isn't real photography (which of course it is). Jambo

Re: Photo Comp - Chat Thread
I was guessing it was something like that and I'm probably in the same boat as you in not being able to do it, but I think I fancy a try.
I'm presuming I'll need a fairly decent camera, tripod and a suitable program to work the magic? |

My phone camera has a HDR setting.
It doesn't work anywhere near like a real HDR process. Sent from my phone. |
