I believe if the youth is making an attempt to take your keys (which is attempted theft of a motor vehicle) you're within your rights to ward off the criminal within reason, and if he ends up with a broken arm then that's what the little **** deserves.

"I struck his arm as he was trying to grab my keys, rode off and reported the incident straight away."

Sounds much nicer than

"yo dawg i tried to take diz doodz keys...yeh..hehe...and eh...yah my homie archie was like "yeh bruh we should jack this fool up in here" and i was like yeh so i tried to jack this doodz keys but he hitted me and i cry "

Might lead to something like this...

It will stun them enough to give you time to ride away.
I studied Aikido for a while and part of that teaches you to fight while seated so you learn a whole new way that only uses your upper body. Headbutts and throws are the main ingredients tbh.....but you know what, the couple of times i've got into scrapes on the bike the training has ended up out the window and i've got off the bike to deal with the problem.

Learing to kick your sidestand down very quickly is a great thing too.

But at the end of the day i agrree with all the comments of DONT GET IN A SCRAP if you can avioid it, its just not worth it in the long run sxdly, even tho some of these little bolox deserve nothing more than an extecned bout of having someone get medevil on their asses!

I'm not suggesting getting into a scrap with them either. It's a defensive move, not offensive. Just like driving the butt of your hand into an attackers nose to give you a few seconds to run away while his eyes are still streaming.

Sorry Ralph, i wasn't suggesting you were saying "FIGHT, FIGHT!!!" but some of the others definately were. What you suggest is absolutely the best of both worlds imho. Quick distraction blow and get the hell out of there. My old sensei would be proud of you

Yeh it's hard to trust a bunch of basically communists!

You call them cause your bike gets nicked, knowing them IF they find it they'll do you for a small plate and loud exhaust!

A few folk have slated any form of violent action, or said the chavs might have knives, etc, but as you say sometimes a defensive blow is the safest way out.

If it did come to it and you'd given them a bit of a kicking then it's important to be certain that you were certain they were attempting to get you off the bike so they could do you serious bodily harm, and you only acted because you were left with no other option, and you used force which at the time you believed was the minimum amount you could have to prevent them doing you harm. So don't kick an unconscious one in the face... but, if one on the floor was trying to get up while reaching for something in his pocket, that could be seen as reasonable. After all, he was still trying to get to you while reaching for a weapon.
Most importantly if they do nick you, don't make a statement straight away, take your time, think about things carefully and talk to your brief about how best to word things to get the truth across with the minimum chance of interpreting against you. You were in fear for your life.

Getting f#cked over for defending your property is worse than the theft or the kicking itself. And they will try it, the law is the second enemy.
