I joined up as a rigger, but failed the course and ended up as a driver, ahem, I dont think there was a single driver in the RAF that went in as a driver, we were all the rejects that other trades didnt want

I nearly ran over a couple of army cadets last night - thats as close to any military action I'm likely to see (thankfully).

Its really hard to spot pedestrians when they're in camoflage gear in the dark!

My housemate's 11 year old son has a liking of camo gear and wears it around the house. When I see him in it I always accidentally barge straight into him and utter the words "Blimey mate, sorry, didn't see you there". He still hasn't figured it out yet. It's a Navy thing.

i ticked navy but was actually in the WRNS which was a different group, we had our own badges and officers had different names etc. They did away with WRNS and now females just join the "normal" navy and have same uniform etc.

Any chance of changing the thread to to Who's in (or been in) the Armed Forces and seen action?

I'm impressed with Prince Harry for going to Aghanistan, however, his dad never saw active service.

That's not the info I'm after, but you can start your own thread on that if you like.

I'm impressed with Harry too. It's what he always wanted to do and he's fought almost everyone to be able to do it.

Just a shame about the American and Australian t****rs who broke the agreement and let the information out early.

Most servicemen I know, past and present, who have seen 'action' don't usually brag about it. You'll hear them say things like "I served in the Gulf" or "I went to the Falklands once". If I'm ever asked my response is "I got caught in a fight in Aldershot with some paras once - I lived to tell the tale" and leave it at that.
