My two cents,
When i was 7 my dad died so my mom was left with a austin cars pension of £70 a week to feed 4 kids ranging through age of 7 (me), 13, 15, 17.
We didnt have a pot to urinate in, no fecking help off the government apart from council house and child benefit of about £8 a week.
We ate well and had clean clothes always.
Single mothers got more than a widow for some reason.
My mom had three crappy jobs as she was always a housewife so not trained in anything.
My wifes mom was in the same boat but her old man left when she was young.
Boils my blood now when i see people get loads off this government and with hardly any of the effort.
No incentive to do better.
Labour are just dole encouraging w4nkers.
I have worked all my life for everything i have and never claimed a penny in dole or dss.
Amazing all the people you see on telly complaining about their lack of money etc probably all smoke 20 a day but cant give their kids a decent meal.

Rant over

Exactly, why are people so happy to judge those with crap jobs and pay? At least they've bothered to get up off their ar$es and get one! My mother is on a pittance at the moment, despite having a degree and years of experience, she's certainly not thick. Just the way things are atm, getting any sort of job is difficult, let alone one that pays well.

Some cracking replies to this thread guys and gals, proving a good read

Theres also some pretty frustrated folk out there too right now.
Example: Im Indoors works in Willy Wonkas, whilst doing degree, to get DizzyB and himself out of this godforsaken place, by earning more pennies.
Finishes degree, and is still working at Willy Wonkas, as the country has gone t!ts up and spoilt said plans, graduates find it hard at the best of times, but now in his chosen field, job opportunities have gone down to practically zilch.
Thing is he earns the same money as me, and I ain't nowhere near as tefal brained as him, nor qualified.
Its a case of being grateful for what you have right now.

True But I was saying you'd have to be a numpty not to earn £10k if you really wanted to.

The poor deserve financial help to get better educated.

Because at the end of the day doesnt it all come down to education - I dont just mean schooling but the sharing of information, understanding and interpretation of what you are taking in.

In todays world young people are learning so much more through information sharing and the internet - they are a lot better educated compared to where we were 15 years ago at school. What takes a few hours to find answers today would have taken me weeks back then - and I still wouldnt know if I could trust it or not - growing up in todays world is an amazing opportunity for all. Doors are opening by being better informed. You learn things everyday online you had no intention of - just because it was there.

It just depends on where you are getting the information from and how you interpret it to what exit you take.

ask the government they will give you text book answers
ask the .org you will get the sensible answer.
ask google you will get more radical options.

So should we help the poor? I think so but I beleive a better solution is to put money into education.

I can see your point, but disagree with you first statement. At what degree of 'poor' do you mean? I'm poor, but am reasonably educated. My OH is defo poor, but is highly educated, and has come from a private schooling. In that I mean I live off a lowish wage compared to some.
As for young people being better educated these days, I certainly disagree, where they may have every opportunity to aquire information, as we see on here everyday, a lot can't even spell basic words...and thats not down to them being poor. Information at your finger tips seems to be making folk lazy, in some directions.

Young people know nowt these days. Have you ever seen a past exam paper they are given as a mock? There is nothing to them anymore as they have been dumbed down to get the pass rate up.

Todays young people certainly do not know more than the young people of my time.

Why do the poor people who don't work smoke and visit the pub? Can't be that poor eh?
